The context for that was that the first part of the sign was Skol Liquor followed by Dial Raw Beef. Raw Beef was the letters of their phone number. I know I worked there 40 years ago.

Great photos. Burts face is classic in the photo of Bennett. I enjoy watching these numbers shrink!

The picture of Maroney sticking the flag on the Michigan M & Burt Bulimic's gas face are awesome.

Well done station19. Does anyone else remember when it was still a fire station?

Well done station19. Does anyone else remember when it was still a fire station?

Dr.Don - You must be either a young fellow or your long term memory is gone. The first time I saw it was probably sometime in the late 1940s. My problem is that I can't quite remember the year when the fire station was "decommissioned."

Growing up in SE Minneapolis I remember fire trucks coming from Station 19 in the 60's and early 70's.

"Fire Station #19 operated until 1983 and since has been converted into offices."

I had to look it up myself.

Note: I have no affiliation with Station 19............outside of pounding down a few cocktails before and after Gopher games.

Thanks - It always nice to be able to actually learn something here. I am not sure though that I agree with your comment that you have no affiliation with Station 19. It sound like to me that you have been investing in the liquid assets of Station 19. I suspect that you also get a discount for all the advertising you do for them on the GopherHole.

I don't, but I should.

Then again they might sue me for defamation of character.

They would gain nothing by that because you are such a viable and valuable representative of that name.

For 18, anyone have Gil Fash?

Husker: Remember that game at Illinois where he replaced an injured Tony Dungy? He threw a TD to Mike Jones (I think) on a play that my high school team called "Right, 54 Dump." I think that Paul Glanton also picked up or caught a fumble that game and rumbled for a touchdown.

I think that Illinios game was his only action. He was a senior. It was a foggy afternoon at Illinios, I would have estimated the visibilty at about 50 feet. He threw 10 passes and completed two. One through the fog for the winning TD from about 25 yards out. Found his his stats on line.

Another Senior who rose to the occassion was Benji Kamrath number 19. He didn't need to throw much, but when he did he made it count.
