Home Stretch SS!

I hope to have the master ranking that Doc requested (#1 through #347) posted by the end of today, or at the latest, tomorrow. Am saving scheduling nuggets for my 2012-13 "Road to Selection Sunday" debut in a couple weeks, which also will include my preseason Top 25 and preseason "Field of 68" projection.

Sneak preview. ... I have 7 B1G teams making the NCAA Tournament, but only 4 (Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State) crack my top 25. And Indiana is not my preseason #1. I have the Hoosiers at #3.

Thanks for all of this, SS. I look forward to your master ranking, scheduling nuggets, preseason top 25, and you "68" projection. You even put the ESPN talking heads to shame, good work. Thanks again, my friend. Doc

Texas Tech got singled-out for home cooking by SI, but Arizona State's opponents averaged a lower RPI last year, almost last in the country - that's an embarrassment for Herb Sendek - I guess he's scared of losing his job. If only he could get out of having to play all those Pac-12 schools ...

Iowa and Mississippi State also had extremely weak schedules by SS's measure. I suppose of the four (TTU, ASU, Iowa and Miss St), Iowa is the most blame-worthy since they're supposed to have a fairly competitive team this season.

I have to say, I'm pretty irritated the writer would single out OSU and ignore other big name schools like Arizona State, Mississippi State and Iowa. If you just look at big name schools, there are a lot out there without the marquee games the Bucks have this year. They have Marquette, Duke and Kansas (as well as one of Seton Hall or Washington) - does it really matter if they play Savannah State instead of Kent State? On second thought, both would be bad according to the writer Glockner, who also seems to think it's a negative to schedule Long Beach State just because there's no state named "Long Beach" - there are probably going to be many HM schools that finish lower than them in the RPI this year, but because of the school name they shouldn't be scheduled? Long Beach State and Rhode Island aren't very good, but there are a lot worse programs out there to ridicule other teams for scheduling. Texas A&M would seem to fit his criteria as a cupcake since they have an ampersand in their name - that just goes to show you how dumb his methods are. He's also wrong that Northern Kentucky is not D-1 - they are starting this year. But that's hardly important. His column foolishly singles out schools with decent nonconference schedules and ignores most of the worst violators among name teams such as Mississippi State, Iowa and Arizona State (but he does rightly criticize Texas Tech). The reality is nonconference schedules don't have to be hard - there's no trophy for best nonconference schedule or best nonconference performance - a writer griping about schedules is just space filler. Most fans are focused on football until the bowl season ends anyway.

Good stuff, OSU fan. Arizona State and Iowa for their bad NC schedules and Ohio State for the top end of its NC schedule are three of the teams I have earmarked for my first "Road to Selection Sunday" column in a week or two. ASU and Iowa each play 8 opponenets with RPIs #261 or higher, while the Buckeyes, conversely, are one of only three teams (Long Beach State & Temple are the others) that will play three NC opponents who finished in the top 10 of the RPI last season.
