All-Minnesota Team watch list

I only saw him vs Duke and he looked terrible - not surprising though.

I've seen a few of his games, for a freshman he has been playing very well. The duke game they got worked all around, he didn't play terrible, just didn't drop as many shots as normal, similar looks.

Muscala is having a huge year. He hit a game-winning 3 yesterday.

I like Taylor he is a good player. He is scoring alot bout he shoots alot... 40% from the floor and 33% from three in the Big Ten... He should average 20 pts in the Big Ten firing the ball that much..

He is good at drawing fouls.. 6/16,6/16, 3/10 and 8/20 those are some of his Big 10 field goal numbers..

Wisconsin loves to use big chunks of the shot clock, which puts significant pressure on the point to create at the end of the clock. Not to defend Taylor too much, but this skews his numbers. He's forced to take difficult shots - much more so than if he were in a different offensive system.

Same for Kwadzo at UNI. Though he's simply not a good shooter, unlike Taylor.

Exactly. When you run the shot clock down to almost nothing every possession a lot of time the play breaks down, and the PG has to fire up some very difficult shots.

Watching Taylor pretty much every game since he arrived in Madison, his improvement has been remarkable. I'm not a great basketball mind like many on this board, but with how well he protects the ball and his passing I wouldn't be shocked to see him grab a roster spot in the NBA. That very well could be a preposterous statement, but I'm going with it.

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell sophomore center Mike Muscala (Roseville, Minn./Roseville) added another impressive award on Tuesday when the U.S. Basketball Writers Association selected him as the Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week for games ending the week of Sunday, Jan. 16. Muscala, who was named the Patriot League Player of the Week on Monday after two terrific performances against American and Holy Cross, is the second straight Patriot League player to claim the award after American's Vlad Moldoveanu won it the previous week.

Since others have bumped this thread already today I thought I'd tack on a couple of updates.

Shame on me for somehow blanking on including Nate Wolters on my initial list. Wolters is absolutely tearing it up for South Dakota State, averaging 19.4 points and 6.0 assists per game, and shooting just under 55% from 3-point range. He may end up with a truly huge statistical season by the end.

The Cousy Award list was cut down to 20 finalists, one of which is Jordan Taylor. With his assist to turnover ratio and scoring average, he might end up as a top-5 finisher for that award this year. Kwadzo did not make the cut down to 20.

Wolters will be on the Cousy list before he graduates. He is only a soph. He could play in the Big Ten. Check the KenPom player ratings. He is 3rd in the country in offensive effeciency. He sure could help the Gophers at pg right now.

At Wisc running the clock down and taking tough shots makes Bo a genius and here it makes Tubby offensively challenged??

Not smart coaching by Bo then use your TWO studs and start your offense earlier.. Everyone makes Leuer sound like he is Lottery -then offensively this makes no sense.

I like following the MN kids as well, and I can only do it through this board. Thanks for the thread.

I almost forgot about Cory Johnson, who with I. Dahlman would rank in the top five Monson recruiting gaffes when they happened (Leuer has to be number one). As it turned out, Monson was right in his judgement that they were not really front line Big Ten players.

Good luck to all of our Minnesota boys, except when playing the Gophers.

Though Leuer has blossomed into a legit first team all-conference player at Wisconsin, you can't really call him a recruiting gaff. He was a very late bloomer and wasn't highly sought after coming out of high school. Trent Lockett and Jordan Taylor, though, hurt a little bit considering how highly regarded those players were.

I think it was mentioned before, but Anthony Tucker may become a Division II first team All-American at Winona State this season.
