Nebraska AD is saying that each of the big10 ADs wanted a fall season. Their message was given to Warren who wanted to wait until spring. Warren then met with the Presidents and a decision was made.

Nebraska AD may or may not know what he is talking about

How long until Nebby AD is unemployed?

I find this suspect. To many AD’s for the truth to come out if this gains traction.

I highly doubt this. Based on Barry Alvarez' comments and visage my sense is that he too realized the season was too risky.

University president opinion trumps AD. Of course the AD's and the coach's want to play.

Even if it was true in some sense (likely "off the record"), so what?

AD's main job outside of hiring/firing coaches, is to fundraise and watch the bottom line of the dept. They know that without football revenue, their depts will need bailouts in some form or another (school, state, donors, etc.).

That's just the stink of the poop for this year. Never was any avoiding it.

Ask the NFL to delay their draft 4 to 6 weeks and have a spring season, Feb-April, 10 conference games. That's what all of college football should -do there will be a vaccine by then. The season will take the place of spring practice and will keep some players from turning pro early. NCAA should be providing a united front on this - how about some leadership?

The ADs have a lot to lose if there's no football season. Of course they wanted the season.

At the risk of sounding cynical - it's easy and safe for the AD's to claim they would have done something different after the fact, especially when the decision is unpopular.

It wasn't their decision to make. If the AD's were advising their respective Presidents, and the Presidents didn't listen to them, that's on the Presidents.

And - if the season went ahead, and things went fubar, the AD's would not be the ones taking the heat. that would go on the league and the Administrators.

I'm sure they all "wanted" one. Doesn't mean they all think the wrong choice was made. More spin by angry Nebraska folks who need to get over it.

This can't be true because I just heard this weekend from a Nebraska fan that Minnesota was the only school that unanimously supported moving to Spring, implying Coyle supported it.

AD's were never going to make the decision, nor should they have. So who cares? How many heads of the universities' health systems supported a fall season?

The Iowa A.D. admitted that he wanted a delay not cancellation. (see Des Moines Register Tuesday)

By having the higher ups make the decision, it provides cover for the ADs. You are d@mned if you do and d@mned if you don't.

Covid is so unpredictable at this point. It is quite shocking the rapid spread of Covid on campuses that have re-opened. That has to be very expensive to shut down after students moved in.

The same can be said of the football season. If they have to shut it down during the season, it can be costly financially and health-wise to the universities, the vulnerable players, coaches, and staff. Either way, it is a huge financial hit.

There is no win-win either way you look at this.

Presidents of universities hire and fire ADs.
NE is mostly worried, as one of the local sports scribes wrote, that some recruits and some players come to Linoln only to play football and sitting around and going to classes in Lincoln will not be very appealing and they will go elsewhere to play this fall.
It also tore tore scab off of NE's wounded ego that they have not dominated the BIG as they predicted when they fled the Big12 to escape the Big Horn TV network.
Most fans would jump back to the Big 12 in a heartbeat, the academic faculty and bean counters at NE know the BIG is the only realistic place for them.

It certainly isn’t the only “realistic” place for them. Rather, it is their dream destination. It was that way when they applied to be in the conference in the early 1900’s and were rejected, and it’s that way now.

But did they earn it?
