All about Max Brosmer Making the Cut

If the Vikings try to put Max on the practice squad, and he gets claimed by another team do they have to keep him on their 53 man roster all year? Similar to the rule 5 draft in baseball?
Yes...teams that sign a player from another PS must place them on their 53-man active roster.

If the Vikings keep three (3) QBs, it would likely cost us one of our young talented DTs that allowed us to feel comfortable enough to trade Harrison Phillips.

What a great story it would be if Max made the active roster, though.

As it stands right now.....the question is simple. Max vs. Howell??? Rypien is gone.

Does Howell have that much "good" NFL experience to keep over Brosmer because there is ZERO doubt about who played better this preseason. Brosmer looked like the seasoned vet and Howell continues to make rookie mistakes

OTOH....has a team EVER gone into a season with their top 2 quarterbacks having never taken one NFL snap??? It would be a ballsy move.

Howell is going to be QB2, that's why he didn't play last night. Preseason stats mean very little but Howell was good in game 1. He only played 3 series in game 2 when he wasn't very good so that was a pretty small sample size.

I think the Vikings will figure out a way to keep Max as QB3.

Yeah, I think they carried 3 QBs the last two seasons. Just based on KOC's glowing comments, it seems like he wants Max around.

Often times he has said, "you forget that he is just a rookie." Meaning he is doing very well and is very intelligent in regard to football technology along with the playbook.

I will say this: if the Vikes choose to only keep two qbs, it's worth keeping Brosmer over Howell. Then they can stash him, and if JJ gets hurt they can sign one of a handful of journeyman qbs who will be free agents come the regular season who have the same experience and capability level of Howell. I'm certain there will be one or two FAs available mid-season who have had some good run in the league.
They can’t just sign a free agent journeyman QB as a plug and play option if JJ gets hurt is or ineffective. There is too much to learn about a new system for that to work. My guess is they keep Howell, since he know the system, personnel and has a whole season of starting experience.

Have not seen anything about Wentz. But my point is still valid. Signing a QB free agent with no time to learn the playbook isn’t a prescription for success, especially if it happens right after an injury to the starter. You don’t see that too often, for good reason. Signing Wentz would give him 8 days to get up to speed, not much time. But I do trust KOC and the coaching staff, so we will see. It does seems like Brosmer is a keeper.

It looks like the league minimum for a rookie is $840k per year while the practice squad pays about $230k per year. Sure hope he makes it!

I believe Max is in based on the Viking report today. I'm not a fan of Wentz as I simply believe he was a flash in the pan and he is done.
