Al Nuness: Tyus Jones is better at the same level as Khalid

It would have been cool to see Harrison Barnes up here this year as well, oh well.

But about the main topic, I haven't seen the kid play but everything I have heard is spot on with what everyone else is saying. I have a good buddy who played Bball in Europe and was an assistant coach for his alma mater (D2). Well, he knows a ton about basketball (as much as anyone i've ever met), and has done a lot of recruiting and scouting. He went and saw this kid play out of curiousity, and he was gushing about this kid. His exact words were "this had to be what Magic Johnson played like in 8th grade". He wasn't comparing him to Magic or anything like that, he just was in awe of the kids vision, athleticism, bball IQ, and ability to get players involved. Like I said, he had coached D2 basketball, and he swears that this kid would get significant PT at the D2 level RIGHT NOW.

Wow. Says a lot about this kid if a D2 coach is already that impressed with him. Obviously, he's still got a long ways to go before he gets to college. One question for those who know: Is he starting at Apple Valley or coming off the bench? I know that El-Amin started at North as an eighth grader. Not trying to draw this comparison thing out too far, but I'm curious to see if Jones is starting at Apple Valley. Based on comments made here so far, I would venture to guess that he is, but I would like to know for sure.

I've read that he is in fact starting, but I haven't seen him play yet so I guess I can't say for sure. I'll find out next Monday.

He starts. He's their most important player. He controls the game.

I get the skepticism. I had it, too. See him play.

This was posted on free board of the Minnesota Preps site:

"2009 - 2010 Timberwolves Shootout
Saturday, January 9th 2010

Game # 1 (10:00am) = Orono vs. Grand Rapids

Game # 2 (12:00pm) = Staples-Motley vs. MN Transitions

Game # 3 (2:00pm) = Crosby-Ironton vs. Plainview-Elgin-Millville

Game # 4 (4:00pm) = North Lawndale College Prep (IL) vs. Henry-Sibley

Game # 5 (6:00pm) = Linn-Mar (IA) vs. Minnetonka

Game # 6 (8:00pm) = Champlin Park vs. Hopkins"

Not as a good of a lineup as past years. From an out-of-state perspective, I don't know what kind of talent North Lawndale has, but as mentioned, Paige is a very highly thought of prospect for Linn Mar in the 2012 class.

I saw North Lawndale play last year and it was a bunch of 6'6" plus guys dunking on everyone. I'm still shocked they lost to Whitney Young in the semis

Check out the roster: http://www.avhoops.com/2010/roster.htm

Every player on the team is either a JR or SR, except for him.

So is every other roster sans a few in the state. He is however, not the ONLY player on the team. Tommy Schalk is leading AV in scoring and rebounding. I will say that stats on the youngman are great but knowing how big his feet are, well that's a bit on the creepy side.

Jones

I think Jones is putting up 15 pts, 11 assists a game right now, including 19 against state ranked Eden Prairie.
