Al Nolen has plantar fasciitis, could miss six weeks

This sucks for him and us...planters hurts like hell...plus you gotta sleep with that damn boot on...lets hope he is a fast healer and he follows the Dr.'s instructions...this can stick with you if you aren't careful.

This is bad, they have not looked the same since he left. There has been very little pressure d without Nolen. The freshmen guards look ok, but I don't know if we'd want them in at the end of a close game.

Bad news. I feel for Al. Injuries do happen though. Far less frustrating then the off-the-court stuff for sure.

I'm guessing this source isn't a doctor.
He'll be back when he is back.

Should he redshirt instead? We could use him next year. As of right now we're looking at him possibly missing half of the BT season?? Did I do my math right?

Isn't this the same stuff MarQueis Gray had? How long was he out for?

Nope. He would miss three BT games.

Poor nolen, missed like half of last year only to miss half of this year. really *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#ty deal

He can't redshirt.
I believe you can take a medical redshirt if you get injured and played in <30% of the schedule?

At least that's what they were saying re: Kyrie Irving and his foot injury, and he played in more games than Nolen?

I think Nolen and Devoe just hate playing together. They've planned this out to split games.

If we don't have Nolen (or a Nolen healthy enough to play like himself) for those first 5 BT games that's going to be pretty scary.

This is awful news. Apart from the tournament, this is the worst possible time in this entire season for him to be out. After the NC schedule is finished, we're coming up on an absolutely brutal stretch of games to start the conference schedule. It's possible (scratch that, LIKELY) that we lose all three of our first BT games without him.

That's what I thought too. I believe Mike Bauer played a few games his freshman year (first 6 or 7) then redshirted.

I know the people who matter won't read this but having struggled with plantar fasciitis for many years (eight) I very successfully broke through with an alternative treatment

- ion treatments: This is a footbath that has an array that releases negative ions and prompts the feet to dump toxins, clearing the interstitial tissue to speed healing. I had had PF off and on for almost 8 years, had to quit running etc. Found someone with a machine and tried it and within a few treatments was much better, within a month I was running again. Its considered "alternative" therapy but it worked so well for me that I bought one for myself and for treating clients. Al should get some treatments - he has nothing to lose, no side effects.

Many pro teams use this treatment for things like tendinitis and recovery from bone spurs in elbows and knees. Ive heard it can really speed up the healing and also help it from coming back.

Nolan is young so I presume his issues are more related to a shoe, arch or bone spur problem...he may just need to get an orthodic or even a different pair of shoes and then work on releasing the tendon from the bone and take some anti-imflamatories...6 weeks seems extreme unless there are bone spurs.

He looked very hobbled at the Cornell game...really limping when he first got up after sitting for a while...so I am guessing he's got it pretty bad right now.

There is no such thing as a medical redshirt.

However, if Nolen were injured and unable to play through the end of the season, he likely would be able to obtain an additional year of eligibility. This would need to be based on him being too hurt to play the remainder of this year, not a decision (i.e., docs are saying he should not play -- if they give him the green light with 2 weeks left in the Big Ten season, but we decide not to play him, no luck).

As an expert being that I am a retired proctologist, most of you have your heads up your "you know where" and it shows. Don't worry, I have found many heads there.

This injury sucks. It's the kind of injury where you have to feel no pain, and then wait a week or two to come back. It sticks around like hamstring injuries do, but in my opinion PF is more of a pain tolerance/further injuring thing than a "can it function right" type of thing. PF really limits your first step, which is crucial for AL on D and O.

There are many degrees of severity of PF, some just take a little rest and an orthotic to deal with, others stick much longer. Let's hope for the former.

We're talking 6 weeks from the 24th or 25th of November.. which comes out to be the first week of January. Not great, but the headline is misleading...

this is basically a problem caused by poor shoes and support, many sports shoes break down in a very short time and should be constantly changed out. surprised Tubby doesn't require everyone to use new shoes every three or four games

Hope you are right, Philly

Certainly I was older than Al when I tried this.

Actually, it is usually a combo of imbalances (hips, legs, feet) creating a situation where shoes wear unevenly, leading to poor support.
Al should be stretching everything from psoas down, icing constantly.

Didn't Blake have this last year or the year before and had to switch to a different shoe? This begs the question; Why does this team have such crappy shoes?

I got a feeling he will back in time for Wisconsin. He will play through the pain.
