Adding guys mid season

The excuse making is nauseating.

Not unexpected, but nauseating.

TF can't he be expected to win? TF cant UofM add player(s) mid-season like other schools?

Go ahead and donate a couple million to the basketball NIL so they can go add a NBA player then.

Someone will put him on their team this season

To “expect” Niko to add someone midseason seems like a stretch, especially for a season that at best is headed toward the College Basketball Crown. Save the money for next season, when it appears we (knock on wood) have a few nice pieces in place and presumably make a run at the NCAA tourney. And if really lucky, the “5 for 5” rule is passed and Tyson decides to stick around for it.
One could argue Tyson is basically the "team" this year. You acknowledge the outlook for this year is pretty soft. So, why will we somehow "presumably make a run at the NCAA tourney", next year?
I'd suggest with Tyson this year if we added a midseason transfer who was somewhat of a difference maker, we might sneak into post season this year.

But next year...Crocker-Johnson, Asuma, and Durkin are not getting us off the bottom. I like the potential of Chadrack...he may help... he may be in over his head depending how he reacts to the massive upgrade in competition. Is Nolen Anderson a difference maker as a freshman? My thought is probably not...you differ?

Otherwise, we are at the mercy of our portal additions to duplicate Tyson with one addition, find a second guy of similar impact in order to make any type of run to .500 in the Big Ten. And add a big or two who can contribute and we need to find a point guard who can handle the ball versus pressure. That's possible but not yet in place to be labeled "presumably".

Tell me how you see us .500 or better in the Big Ten next year?

I need to see not only the Gopher roster but also the rosters of the other 17 teams. ... somewhere around early to mid-June maybe? I trust Niko enough to think next season will be better than this season. How much better is the question.

I'm just amazed we have reached a point already where someone who has played in the NBA may be joining a college team mid-season.

I mean seriously - that would have sounded insane a couple of years ago but now it is just yet another level of the mess that is college athletics.

NCAA using the "our hands are tied" defense
I mean in their defense their hands really are tied on a lot of this because every time they try to stop something they get sued and it seems like in general the players are winning pretty much every lawsuit.

I mean when even coaches like Izzo are unsure what the hell is going on that really says something about just how far off the rails things have gone.

Have we reached out to Ben Johnson? I think he's an upgrade over Langston Reynolds. Can Mark Coyle just order him to play?

NCAA president Charlie Baker on Tuesday clarified his organization's position on college eligibility for players with NBA experience.

The official stance came in the wake of Baylor signing former NBA draft pick James Nnaji and amid reports that current NBA player Trentyn Flowers is pursuing college eligibility.

"The NCAA has not and will not grant eligibility to any prospective or returning student-athletes who have signed an NBA contract (including a two-way contract)," Baker said in a statement. "As schools are increasingly recruiting individuals with international league experience, the NCAA is exercising discretion in applying the actual and necessary expenses bylaw to ensure that prospective student-athletes with experience in American basketball leagues are not at a disadvantage compared to their international counterparts. Rules have long permitted schools to enroll and play individuals with no prior collegiate experience midyear.

"While the NCAA has prevailed on the vast majority of eligibility-related lawsuits, recent outlier decisions enjoining the NCAA on a nationwide basis from enforcing rules that have been on the books for decades -- without even having a trial -- are wildly destabilizing. I will be working with DI leaders in the weeks ahead to protect college basketball from these misguided attempts to destroy this American institution."

Honestly there are no rules. He's played 5 full years already. Its no longer a joke, can nate mason, call Dre Hollins, Jordan Murphy whoever, its not like they can't play

Curious as to why Max Gizzi gets no time. Reports are he's a great defender and can handle the ball really well. Not much of an offensive threat. Shoots 90% FT. They play some really good ball in the Crossroads League (NAIA)

Might help us down the stretch of games where our guys have played the entire game

With the usual caveat of not having seen any practices or practice films, I'm guessing that Niko feels his team is better off running a worn down Asuma, Reynolds, Shinholster out there than a fresh Gizzi. Reminds me of the days when the Giants felt they'd rather play Barry Bonds at 60% of his usual self than any of the other guys available at 100%.

If he's that bad, why not bring a better player in? Might be that Max was the best he could find that fit the type of character and attitude that Niko is looking for on his roster. I don't really know, but if Max isn't getting floor time, the guy who we consider to be a pretty good coach, and sees Max every day in practice, must have a pretty good reason. And if it's something negative, I wouldn't expect to hear Nico throw him under the bus just to satisfy the curiosity of fans on the GopherHole or in the general media.

Somehow South Carolina women's team was able to add a tall 6'7" player from France, Alicia Tournebize that played her first game just the other night.

Some where along the way I think I heard he was injured...so, he may not be healthy or completely healthy. Or, he just is in over his head ability wise but usually if you recruit an energy guy he at least gets mop up minutes...so i'll go with injury. But, I don't know.
