A little love for Koi Perich

I haven't read the posts after the game on Saturday, but I'm surprised there hasn't been a nod to the 242 yards Koi amassed in kick returns.

We haven't seen a day like that since Troy Stoudermire in 2008 against Iowa.

Given some of the criticisms of his play this year (much of it deserved), that was a difference-maker and kept us in the game/played a role in our chance to win at the end.

Also had a nice chase down forced fumble on that long run that sadly took a standard Gophers bounce directly out of bounds!

Koi had a really solid game - disappointing game overall, but he, Drake, Ijeboi, our receivers and I’m sure some others all had nice games!

He just turned 20yo this September and came here with a lot of hype/ expectations. He has overall seemed to be tentative this season but played great against NW. I hope he stays healthy/ happy here and finishes the season strong.

More than that, the Gophers probably had very little chance in this game without the returns.

He did good on the return and forced fumble.

But he has wiffed on tackles or just thrown his shoulder wildly and not wrapped up a lot this year too.

He seems athletic but rough around the edges.

Not unusual for a Sophomore player to experience. I do think he's a shining example of the problems we have with the defensive philosophy and coaching this year.

Despite some rough games this year, PJ will still need to re-sell Koi again at the end of the season, as I think everyone knows Koi has aspirations to play in the League. However, does he still believe this Def staff can get him there? You have Caleb Downs graduating at OSU, and you have to trust your football future to Danny Collins or Matt Patricia. With one call, he could probably be wearing Scarlet and Grey. We'll see how close he really is to Drake.
