A good & fair quote from Kill to Marcus Fuller regarding Citrus Bowl invite & fans

If you can manage it, let's do our part fellow Gopher fans. Ski-U-Mah!

I can't afford the trip with two kids in college.... But I will be happy to pony up for my U of MN Sophomore daughter to go if she finds an equitable trip!

I didn't want to start a new thread asking this question, but I'm curious,, what is "Ski-U-Mah"?

M-I-Z-Z-O-U

A lot has been said about Kill staying put so long as we give him everything he needs to win right here. Most people quite rightly deduce that we need to upgrade facilities in order to keep up in the arms race. But it also means support. For years we've written off relatively light bowl crowds as being due to playing in lower-tier bowls in unappealing locations. For sure El Paso and Houston are not what we envision for winter/holiday getaways. There will be no excuses this year. We have a NYD bowl against an SEC division champion, in Florida, in a city surrounded by tourist infrastructure and large airports. It's time for us to put up or shut up as fans. Road trip, bus, FF miles, suck it up and pay, fly to Atlanta, whatever. This is an extraordinary opportunity, now that the squad has shown us something, to show them that we really were a sleeping giant.

A really dumb thing we cling to for no apparent reason.

It will be interesting to see what kind of fan turnout we get for this one. Talk has always been about the large number of snow birds living down in Florida that would support the team if we ended up there so now is the time to find out if that is true or not. Hopefully any that do will still buy tickets through the U because that is the only way the school gets credit for them.

I wish we were in a position to make the trip but with 3 young kids it just isn't in the cards for this year. Hopefully though the fan turnout will reflect that we are in a quality game against a good opponent.

...............

If I had a child we could leave with grandma and grandpa all day we would be there. Next year I plan on making it to our bowl game and the big 10 tournament for basketball.

not any different then any other rally cry/slogan i've ever heard...

Very true, but this one stands out because not only do the opponents have no idea how it even relates to the state/U, but most home fans don't either.

+1. Could not have said it better.

maybe that's why I like it, if you went to school at the U you'll understand, if not you're probably not "in the know"

It was the battle cry on December 7, 1940, that the Finlanders from Cloquet used when they invaded Two Harbors and attacked Pearl Johnson.

I think that says more about the lack of success/tradition than it does about the slogan itself. If we were a top 25 team every year with a Rose Bowl appearance at least once a decade, I think it would be different.

Since we're the "home" team, is the team bringing the Ski-U-Mah banner and passing it up the lower level?

? LOL Most alums have had it explained to us, that doesn't mean we understand. And you only make it sound more absurd when you talk about it like a boy's clubhouse secret. It's a cheer. It's fine, but it stands out nationally as a cheer where nobody knows what it means and which does not in any way reference the state, team, or university. Other than that it's great.

That would be sweet. Anyone know who (or how) to get in contact with the U of M football student section student leaders on this question? And/or an athletic department/U of M equipment team person who may be able to find out if it is possible/allowed to bring the Ski-U-Mah banner to Orlando to display during the game?

The "U-Mah" is a way to say U of M that rhymes with rah. That's not too difficult to remember.

"Rock Chalk Jayhawk." "Boomer Sooner." "Hoya saxa." Explain those.

I like it and I'm glad they've been using it more. It's the one thing we have that's different.

Those 3 all explicitly name the school mascot rather than a word which rhymes with a generic word for "cheer". That was easy.

Anyway Mizzou folks the short answer is we just say it so don't ask why.

Excuse me for getting on topic here, but Jerry Kill is right. We asked him for a NYD bowl, we asked him for a Florida bowl. We as fans are out of excuses. Attend the bowl.

This.

And based on the first two hours of ticket sales, Gopher fans are stepping up.

Public Data or do you know someone? Do you know anything beyond that things are going OK?

According to gophersports.com, there are still seats in sections 136 and 137 - otherwise, the lower level has sold out.

I almost choked on my lunch reading this. Bravo.

I had planned to go as soon as the Gophers made it to a bowl game of Citrus/Outback caliber. But, the donation price raise/expansion took all the wind out of those sails for me. I now have to make tough choices related to my season tickets and bowl budget will have to move to season ticket budget.
