Back in the late 80's, early 90's, one of the Gopher basketball staff members had a connection to our little town in western MN. So on two occasions the basketball team came to our area and had what you could say was a retreat. I believe it was in the fall before the season started. No coaches or staff members were there. They camped out for a few nights at one of the lakes, just a time to relax and all. Each time they came to our little small school gym to play ball.

The first time they came was, I believe, Willie Burton's junior or senior year. I have a picture with him at my parents house. Anyways, they came back in the fall of 1990 (I think) and a buddy of mine recently sent me this pic. Yes, I am in the picture, please don't laugh too much.

Can you name all the players? Some should be very easy.

Fabulous picture. I can name most. I want to say this is the 89-90 team, but I'm too far past my bed time to double check. This was one of my favorite gopher teams of all time.
 

Nice Mickey Mouse Shirt! They were a fun team. Burton had so much passion.
 


I'm pretty sure that's the 90-91 team. I don't see Burton or Newbern in the pic.
 


Bob Martin.... Before Midwest Sports Network was picked up by local cable providers (sound familiar?) a group of us had to frequent a local bar to see the games ... off one of those large 8'-10' dishes... We joked that we would hear "Off the hands of Bob Martin" on a regular basis.
 


Willie is not in the picture...this is the 1990-91 team, the year after Willie and the boys left.

sweet pic, I have to find my picture with Chad Kolander when I was in like 3rd grade. I think it was his SR year in Owatonna
 



Man that is a great pic, the Gophers and a kid wearing a jersey/shirt of my all time favorite football player Anthony Carter.

That pic brings back a lot of memories from my childhood, even the fashion (Umbros, Nike Air Tanks, and Caricature shirts of NBA players). It must have been cool to hang out with the Gophers at that age.
 

1990! what a year. where are all of the vuarnet france and ocean pacific t-shirts?! hyper-colors?! marithe & francois girbaud cut-off jean shorts?! come on! ;)

To me it looks like Randy Carter next to Kolander rather than Mario Green.

Bleed...if you spelled Ernie N's name correctly then that alone should qualify you for the Nobel Peace Prize. :)
