The intent of this isn't to get into a pi**ing contest on who the next Gopher coach should be. Simply, list 5 coaches who'd intrugue you enough where they wouldn't make you jump off a bridge if they were hired. Explanations are welcome/encouraged, but not required. Please refrain from criticizing others' selections. I'm simply interested in what others are thinking.

I've limited my list to guys I believe would at least think about it if a juicy offer were thrown their way. I've excluded Tim Miles, my 1st choice, because I don't think he'd bolt Nebraska after one season.

In alphabetical order:
1. Tony Bennett (Virginia) -- like that he's been a head coach at 2 different BCS programs, with some NCAA success.
2. Bryce Drew (Valparaiso) -- maybe he can recruit like his older brother, without the greasey reputation?
3. Dane Fife (Michigan State assistant) -- if we're forced to take a gamble on a young, unproven commodity. ...
4. Gregg Marshall (Wichita State) -- certainly a hot ticket, and has flourished at 2 different schools.
5. Flip Saunders (currently unemployed) -- safe bet that we'd get Flip's best shot. ... his blood is in this program.

Flip, Marshall, Stevens, Williams, Smart. Not many others at all. Are any available to us?

How about Dwayne Stephens and the other Ass't coach at Mich St.

In no order, though like Hodger, I'm only including guys who I think we could get with a nice enough offer:

1. Marshall
2. Flip
3. Dwayne Stephens
4. Wright
5. Dana Altman

Go Gophers!!

Marshall, Flip, Enfield, Buzz, Clem

Assuming the question is 5 we could live with that we have a realistic shot at IMO, my 5 would be (in no particular order):

1. Tony Bennett
2. Gregg Marshall
3. Flip
4. Anthony Grant
5. Chris Mack

Five that I could live with?

1. Flip, I guess.
2. Grant
3. Marshall
4. ?
5. ?

I'm just not at all enthused about most of the names that are getting tossed out there. I don't think they're superior to Tubby, long-term, and I think we're going to end up regretting this decision.

1)Stevens
2)Grant
3)Flip
4)Marshall
5)Buzz

Has Stevens signed with UCLA yet?

No particular order...

1. Gregg Marshall
2. Flip Saunders
3. Mick Cronin
4. Tad Boyle
5. Andy Enfield (crazy risky)
Honorable Mention: Mystery Villa 7 candidate that Teague and Ellis like.

Left off Stevens, Wright, Buzz, Smart etc. because that's not going to happen.

Left off Chris Mack because he's trending down now that he doesn't have Sean Miller's recruits.

Left off Anthony Grant because he hasn't done anything to impress (other than recruit) in the weak SEC.

Left off Tony Bennett because his slow pace+having to play Wisconsin twice a year would be absolute torture.

Taking out guys that have signed new contract at their school or guys I don't think would ever leave like Stevens, Few, Buzz, Wright, and Hoiberg my list is:
1. Flip Saunders
2. Dwayne Stephens
3. Gregg Marshall
4. Anthony Grant
5. Mick Cronin

1 Marshall
2 Flip
3 Wright
4 Mack
5 Grant

disclaimer.. Buzz is my top choice but i'd be dreaming to land him or stevens

Mack would be interesting if for no other reason he could reunite with his favorite columnist and biggest fan, Jim Souhan!

1)Stevens
2)Grant
3)Flip
4)Marshall
5)Buzz

Has Stevens signed with UCLA yet?

Butler is putting together an extension package for Stevens right now. Id guess itll end up looking like Hoiberg's 10/20 deal

1. Pitino
2. Flip
3. Marshall
4. Enfield
5. K. Willard

Shoot for the stars to try and get this program to the top.

I really don't care because we had to make a change and the timing couldn't be better for our program. We have the players to be competitive next year and local kids will finally start filling some of our needs. I like Tim Miles, Ben Howland, and Flip.

Assuming Stevens is out:

1. Tony Bennett (UVa)
2. Flip
3. Mark Fox (UGa)
4. Tad Boyle (Colorado)
5. A. Grant.

Can we at least get Tim Miles a raise from Nebraska? He would be perfect in my view. It seems a bit starcrossed that this job is never open when he is available.

Having said all this, Flip is my first choice.

The same Mark Fox with a losing record in the mediocre SEC and only four games above .500 overall at Georgia?

After extensive GH research and only if Sid won't take it (he was undercover GM of the Lakers)

1. Wright
2. Marshall
3. Stevens
4. Flip
5. Enfield

1. Pitino
2. Izzo
3. Self
4. Coach K
5. Roy Williams

1. Gregg Marshall
2. Bryce Drew
3. Dave Rice
4. Tommy Amaker
5. Scott Nagy
347. Flip Saunders
