Wouldn't it be nice if the Gophers can land this kid?

There has been a lot of focus on the success of the Gophers' Offense. IMHO, the Gophers are quietly putting together a Defense that will make some noise in the next couple of years.

195 in high school and 205 as a true freshman rushing specialist. He's a tall safety.

Wonder if the transfer LB from North Dakota State beat him out??

NDSU COX did beat him out. gonna be a top 20 pick.

Marcel Brooks looks like he could benefit from the Gophers Developmental Program like Chris Williamson did. In one or two years he can be a transformed player possibly true to his HS rating. It appears that he has raw talent being beaten out by NDSU veteran transfer Jabril Cox. Cox was a 2-Star out of HS (0.7667). Now, 247Sports rated him as a 4-Star (0.9300). NDSU did an excellent job developing him.

No. He isn’t
I honestly have no idea if this is correct. But I assume you know what you're talking about, and he won't be.

I do assume though, that you agree playing much higher level competition that LSU will see this season, can only help him increase whatever draft stock he will have.

I predict Baylor and a reunion with Dave Arranda.

That would not be suprising. Supposedly he wants to stay playing in a 3-4 defense, LSU now set to run a 4-3 wirh Pelini as DC. If that is the case, you could rule out the gophers as well.

First off Marcel more than likely would have found a starting spot somewhere in the lineup. Also I thought I saw people saying that he wanted to play closer to home which would point to one of the Texas schools.

Writing was on the wall apparently.

Cox will be a 1st round pick. NDSU couldve had 3 next year if he stayed. (Trey Lance, Dillon Radunz & Cox)

Love this info. Always admired how that program got things done.

Well, Brooks is a 5-star who played a significant number of snaps as a true Freshman for a NC team. I’m not sure how they could be so sure without having practices. If they made a decision like that, and lost a young 5-star player because of it, they F’d up.

I'd take a hard pass on anyone who plays minor league D1 football. Or at least double, triple, and quadruple check to make sure that the player is an actual 1st round level talent and doesn't just look good because he plays against lesser teams.
Cox probably made a great decision to transfer to a P5 powerhouse and show that he belongs with the big dogs.

Only if he performs well at the higher level.

No way Lance goes in the 2021 draft, having only two years of experience at the FCS level. Sorry, but that level is grossly depleted. How do you think NDSU wins every year??? There are, legitimately, like five programs that can actually beat NDSU, out of well over 100 in the division. (granted some are non-scholarship or much lower budgets)

Lance needs to transfer to a big time school, then have a great year, then he could get drafted. Cox has shown the way.

So long as NDSU refuses and/or is unable to move up to big boy football .... everything they've done should be and will be viewed as "congrats on your success in the minor leagues, let me know when you decide to play real football".

** that said, assuming it happens, the game at Oregon could be very interesting. Or it could be a dud, like several years ago when Appalachian State (then the defending FCS champs) went to LSU, and never put a serious challenge to win that game.

Above it is suggested that he wants to play a 3-4 outside linebacker/speed rusher type role, but LSU is switching to a 40 front, which means they'll probably have 260-270 lbs defensive ends with their hands in the dirt most plays, and 230+ lbs outside linebackers.

Either way, he probably needs to put on some serious muscle if he wants a chance at the NFL. It's tough to add 25lbs to your body, even if it's pure muscle, and not lose something in the way of speed and quickness.

mkAz made a good point about Brooks being comfortable playing for Aranda and his 3-4 Defense. IMHO, this seems to more the case than Jabril Cox beating him out.

Just imagine if PJ Fleck can get a 5-Star player or two what the Gophers can do.

lol. He plays on a team with multiple high draft picks all over the field but you think he left because a kid from FCS transferred in? Even one with the potential to be a high draft pick? As if there aren't multiple spots on the field. As if teams don't often find ways to play 3-4 LBs at a time. That's just a silly take.

yea like Carson Wentz huh

just telling you the truth
What does Wentz have to do with anything else?
Plus, isn't he the guy who as soon as he got injured his team was able to make a run to the super bowl?

I actually don’t agree. If he doesn’t dominate then they know he isn’t “it”. Being an all-American at NDSU, and having the measurables, makes him “it”. Now, if he dominates at LSU he’ll be drafted highly. I think he made a bad choice for his draft stock

On a Pro Football Focus draft podcast this week they projected Lance as a Top 5 overall pick for 2021. There's no way he stays at NDSU (or another college) if his draft stock is anywhere near that high.

And yes, that's even with Lawrence and Fields projected to go 1/2 in 2021.

Wow that’s crazy if true. If they really think that highly of him having only played two years of JV football, then my hat’s off to him.
