Per Nick:

2. Minnesota or Purdue

Minnesota was set to have transfer quarterback Zach Pyron on its roster in 2025 but fell down the Golden Gophers depth chart this spring. Drake Lindsey is the only quarterback on the Gophers roster to have attempted a collegiate pass, throwing five times last season. Angeli doesn't have a ton of experience but clearly comes with more than the Gophers currently have.

As for Purude, the Boilermakers recently hosted former Purdue and North Carolina quarterback Ryan Browne for a visit. The Boilermakers clearly aren't sold on their current standing at quarterback and Angeli could certainly provide an upgrade in the room.

Go Gophers!!

I don’t envision us adding a qb. Seems like the coaches are very confident in Lindsay.
Wouldn't shock me to see us try and add a depth QB. Don't think we will be in market for anyone looking to be a starter but would be nice to have another QB on the roster in case we get bit by the injury bug.

Hard pass. I know it’s a risk, but I’d rather roll with Lindsey and our recruits coming up.

If they like Wittke I think they just hold as he could bolt if they add someone. Also I just think it’s unlikely they add someone of this caliber without being able to offer a legit starting opportunity.
It was just a random thought. The only other thing that comes to mind is that they maybe like, but don't love their current situation?

Anyway, I agree that they will most likely pass.

Almost sounds like you are anointing Drake as the starter ;)

If the kid wants to for sure start then yeah, I don't see us having any interest. If he is willing to go somewhere and potentially be the backup then it might make some sense.

Agree about it being reasonable to add depth.

Trouble is that Angeli is not leaving Notre Dame to be a depth addition at some other squad. He's already at the top of the college football landscape. If he's leaving, he's doing that to start with absolute certainty.

Not sure what sort of quality the Gophers could get if the prospective QB transfer knows or suspects he's going to be depth.

I do not think you should ever be in the market for a QB that doesn't think they can be the starter!

This guy would instantly make us relevant next season. Not that Drake couldn’t be the star we all want, but we’d be fools not to add him to the roster if able at the right price (I know weird to say).

I'm interested in hearing why you think this guy would make us instantly relevant. He's only played one full game in his career, against Oregon St. in 2023, otherwise he's been a garbage time guy. I anticipate he's going to demand a lot of money being a QB from a helmet school and I think it would be better to spread our NIL funds across the board more evenly than dumping a ton of it on two players at one position, one of whom may never see a relevant snap.

Also, I think Fleck is going to be extremely careful when recruiting mercs in the spring window. That's a really short amount of time to find out if a guy who could be your #2 qb meshes with your culture and doesn't potentially create unnecessary drama in the QB room before the season starts if they don't get the #1 spot. At least with the winter window, guys in the QB room have time to see where they stand and have the chance to leave if they want or need to come the spring window a la Pyron.

Long story short, I don't think spring is not when you'd want to be looking for my potential future qb unless you have an empty cupboard. Until Lindsey shows otherwise, we don't.

I’ll admit I haven’t personally watched him a ton. However my ND contact gave me this description of his game.

“Angeli is a surgeon in the short and intermediate passing game, has average arm strength for a big program but compared to recent Gopher QBs probably stronger.”

Ultimately just look at his offers out of school. Recruiting can be hit or miss, but these schools are in a different stratosphere than the Gophers. I’d take him in a heartbeat.

It’s probably moot regardless with him likely headed to Tennessee. Happy to see Drake run off Pyron (as in that’s a good sign that maybe he’s the real deal), but would really like to have better depth.

I hear what you're saying, I just don't think he's put up any kind of stats in three years as a college qb that screams we need to go after him. I don't think he considers MN as a destination either, he won't start here unless Lindsey gets hurt or is a disaster, and he won't start in the latter scenario until we're six games in at the earliest based on PJ's history of loyalty to his guys. Again, I could be way off, I just don't see the value in chasing him when we could throw some NIL dollars at other position guys who could help us more in the short term.

I'm also some dude typing on a message board so there's that.
