247 Sports predicting Jeff Jones to ISU

The prediction is from June. We've known for a while that Jones's status is iffy. The staff has backup plans in place in case he chooses a different school.

It's been showing that since June 4.

If we lose Jones it would be to Oklahoma or Mizzou, he aint gonna want to play for the bitch of the big 12

I don't think this throws a wrench into next season. We have Cobb, Edwards, Kirkwoodland, Williams all returning.

I do agree that we'd need a replacement, and it seems like Kill and staff are all over it.

He cancelled his ISU visit last minute

Probably found out it literally stinks in Ames and didn't want to have to take a long shower after returning home

In the interview with him he had said he had concerns about Kill's health. He was also excited to get recruited by ranked teams. Since the interview, the gophers are now ranked and Kill's health has been much more of a non-issue. I can't imagine having trouble recruiting top running backs to Minnesota after watching how most of our offense revolves around them. If he qualifies academically and Kill stays healthy, I have trouble envisioning his committing anywhere else as he has said often that he likes the team and coaching staff.

Not only did you make the mistake of responding to dpodoll the self-proclaimed genius troll, but you proved him wrong factually, which he says isn't possible.

I hope you're ready for him to come after you. Then again, his error is so glaring that he may not even have the gall to come back at you. He certainly doesn't have the integrity to acknowledge he was wrong or even say sorry for the snark. It would ruin his self-proclaimed image as a know-it-all who knows more than you and what's' good for you. A crack in that facade, and he wouldn't be able to interject himself the way he does with any credibility to those who don't know he's full of it.

The 3 teams that worry me are Oklahoma, Michigan State, and Missouri. The thing is, Jones doesn't have an Oklahoma offer yet, it seems like he's their backup plan. Missouri and Michigan State both have 2 RB's committed for 2014 already, not sure if either team wants a 3rd RB. I think Jones has been waiting for some offers that just haven't happened yet. Despite his monster season it may have just been too late in the game or teams are concerned with his academics. We'll just have to wait it out until signing day.

What's this about Jones and Oklahoma? Has Oklahoma expressed interest in him without offering a scholarship yet, or has Jones expressed interest in going to Oklahoma if they offer him a full ride?

Oklahoma has expressed interest in Jones but haven't offered him.

Well, for the love of everything Gophers football, let's hope they don't offer him. I'd like to believe that this football season has solidified the Gophers as his choice in my mind.

Jeff Jones will have next to no affect on next season, whether he commits or not.

That might very well be true. We do get Cobb back, and Edwards will take off the redshirt. But Jones could be a significant addition beyond next season. I'm assuming Jones will redshirt, so if Jones pans out, we could have a very good player for a few years. It's also nice to keep the best players from Minnesota home.

247 also predicted Travis Reid to the Gophers (~2/3) a day before he picked Stanford (almost 0%) over the Gophers and Duke (~1/3). So, perhaps 247 doesn't deserve that much attention (?).

I tend to agree with you. I'd use 247 as a tool to inform you, but I would never rely on them as an authority. They're wrong way too often, but I don't blame them for being wrong. It's really not possible to get it right to a high degree when you have access to very incomplete information.

Jones could be a slot WR. He needs to get bigger if he's gonna run between the tackles. I could see him being a better version of K.J Maye

Yeah, I'm sure the thought of playing slot WR at the U will guarantee he signs here.

I doubt Jeff plans to sign somewhere to be a bit player.

He hasn't shown any interest in Kansas as far as I can tell.

Proven wrong...

How about this? Go fück yourself.

Not to correct you, but contextually, you can't put the umlaut above the "u". There's no way that it would work within the grammar guidelines of German!

With the umlauts, that would now be pronounced "Few-ck", and that can't be right.

Wrong again?!?!?!

Holy sh!t. Wrong twice in ONE thread. Never thought I'd see the day.

Melvin Gordon is only 203 according to their roster and he is a pretty effective between the tackles runner, James White is only 200, i'm hoping that Jeff can get to 210 and that will be plenty of size for a player like JJ, if he gets past 215 then i think that might be a detriment to his ability, i could see him as a good slot receiver with his exceptional lateral ability but no way we tell him that when we recruit him, also he could get 30 carries a game as an RB but only 5 catches a game as a slot guy, i could see berkley as a very good slot guy, in the scouting reports it always said that he has very good hands, also i don't think he redshirts, yes i understand that we will have Cobb, Kirkwood, Roderick Williams and berkley next year but i just feel like there is an unwritten rule that you just don't redshirt a top 100 recruit that plays a skill position with the exception of programs that have top 5 classes year in year out, even if he doesn't play that much i could still see him doing punt returns or something like that, if i had a guarantee that if we redshirt him he would be here for all 5 years then i would say redshirt him but a lot of guys you don't redshirt just because there so good that you don't know if they will be around for 4 or 5 years

no way jones will red shirt

he is SOOOO much better than anyone we currently have on the roster imo he's a 5-star player

I wouldn't be too worried. His crystal ball is locked other than for flip picks, so the one pick to ISU doesn't mean anything.

I haven't talked with him personally since the summer, but everythingI've heard and read indicates he's pretty solid to the Gophers for now.

Maybe I'm way off but I think James White is a pretty good comparison for Jones. Both aren't burners but they have elite lateral quickness and can catch the ball out of the backfield.

guys, he is not going to minnesota b/c he cannot get in to minnesota. there is a reason he is looking at programs like missouri and iowa st. he can get past admissions. he is really good but he doesn't have the grades to get into minnesota. book it.
