Wisconsin right now has listed 5 in their VT Thread who are in the portal. They claim they are mostly bench players...which is for the most part true. Chan DS/L visited Minnesota but chose Wisconsin. She probably would have been starting for us, but the LURE OF THIS PROGRAM and they just can't resist.

I remember hearing during Cook’s time at Washington he didn’t lose any players to the portal. Hopefully he can develop that same level of commitment with his players at Minnesota.
 

Make that 6 Badgers in the portal, Una Vajagic entered which is a bit of a surprise.

Why would they go after another OH?

They need a capable backup setter. That's it. They have their team. It may not be good enough to compete with the best, but this is who they recruited.

Not cranky, a serious question.
 

It is a good queation. I think they need another hitter. Gilk and Kinney are back. Crosson will be here in January. The other two on the roster are Wookie and Acevedo. There's no guarantee either of them will be healthy. We need at least a depth piece.
 

I don't include Gilk and a case could be made for another opposite although any one of those 4 could be that. I just don't know what OH would want to come here and possibly be 6th in line for playing time. And if she moves up in the pecking order, what does that say about how they view the players they recruited?

That's Wisconsin crap right there.
 

Speaking of whom, the Badgers just landed another transfer. Why would anyone want to play for that jerk?

I know it's petty, but I do take a certain amount of enjoyment in watching the weeping and gnashing of teeth on the Wisconsin VT thread. Live by the portal, die by the portal. I know WI will be just fine, but this is the downside of being Team Portal.

I am enjoying the quiet beginning of our offseason as we speculate on the future growth of our young Gophers and incoming recruits.
 

Gophers made honorable mention in espn way to early 2026 top 10. Huskers and badgers came in at 3rd and 4th respectively.
 

Pitt and Penn State swapping players , Jones to PSU and Starck to Pitt. Lauren stein also to PSU from Texas (formerly Nebraska).
 



That ESPN early top ten showed you all you need to know about the transfer portal. A bunch of the teams in top ten got hit hard by graduation and have multiple huge holes to fill yet they slapped them back in the top ten. Why? Because they'll just go shopping in the portal and buy a new team. Sure enough we have All American switching teams again. The players are nothing but mercenaries and mercenaries get paid.
 

And fans just keep cheering for uniforms. I hate it. Worse than pro sports now because it's only one or two years.

I cannot believe that Sheffield and Badger fans are whining about how they HAVE to use the portal because other teams are taking their players. He bleeping started it all.

Money has to be the MAIN driving force to where these players transfer to and then Coach/Program Success. Does CULTURE even come into play with so many of these Top Players? IMO the success these Top Programs continue to have year after year after year is the result of having Top Recruits and/or playing a very Gifted Portal Game.

Wouldn’t Minatee and Z be RS juniors? They were juniors this season.
