2026 NCAA Tournament Thread

Wondering if someone will help me out. I searched the web and couldn't find an answer. Why are teams in the First Four not all considered "17 Seeds", so to speak. I noticed that two "11 Seed" teams played each other in a First Four game. I don't get it. Im not very smart, so if you wouldn't mind explaining it like you're talking with a 5 year old, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks so much.

Okay Jeff? He's scored in single digits 4 of the last 6 games. Are you saying the selection committee would have left SMU home had SMU admitted their 3 leading scorer would miss the tourney?
Nearly 6 rebounds and 5 assists a game. Led the conference in steals.

The committee chair said him coming back played a factor in them getting in.

I believe it's the four lowest rated teams overall (will always be one bid tourney winners) and the lowest rated at-large teams. At large teams have higher metrics than one bid league teams, so they're rarely lower than a 11 seed as the thought is that it'd be unfair for high seeded teams to have to play power conference teams in the first round.

Why are the 4 lowest at large teams automatically given 11 seeds? Why can't they be, for instance, 14 seeds. Im missing something. Remember, I'm dumb!

My guess is that the four lowest at-large teams have much better metrics than the one bid league tourney winners, so giving the at-large teams lower seeds wouldn't make a whole lot of sense.

I remember the year Oklahoma qualified as an at-large qualifier as a 13-seed.

I vaguely remember there being years that 12 seeds have had First Four games, I'm assuming because there were some mid- major automatic qualifiers that had better resumes than bubble teams.

I have said many times that I think it's stupid that automatic qualifiers have to play in the First Four. I think it should be all bubble teams. Put the low major conference champions into the field of 64 automatically!!

I saw that right away and thought it was going to be a technical and he would blow the game. Should have been, right?
I think what saves players/coaches in these situations is the refs always stop play to review the clock. The other team never has a chance to inbound quickly which would have to result in a technical.

Would be wild if Nebraska loses and still doesn’t have a tourney win. I expect them to win but I think Troy makes it difficult for them.

OSU looking like hot piss. Nebraska not looking much better.

Bugeaters have kicked it into high gear. They've taken over OKC.
