Sure the coaches are still working hard to fill out the remainder of the roster but maybe taking more time now that they have at least a solid framework in place. Want to be sure that the remaining guys they bring in will fit well with what is already in place.

Still a ton of players in the portal looking for new homes.

As of last week, there were still about 40-50 of the top 150 players left and more were coming into the portal. Some of the big time schools will have filled out their core and spent a lot of money doing so. We are going to be a logical stop for a good shooter and a good big. I hope we have squirreled away enough resources to get them.

Yeah, makes sense that things kind of ebb and flow some. You get a flurry of activity and then teams kind of reset and see where things are at in terms of their rosters and what is left in the portal.

Can't even imagine trying to navigate the portal and all the craziness around it.....exciting because it opens up the prospects of building your team quickly but also opens up the chance that your team will get blown up as well. Whole thing is just messy.
 



Is there any chance Niko is waiting until the 22nd to complete the roster? Any new additions may make a current player feel, "their toes are getting stepped on."

Richard had a hilarious tweet on "portal closing day" a few years ago along the lines of, "I can be mean to my players again!"

The Gopher digs many tunnels. An elaborate, complex system that provides mobility, shelter, and the ability to stockpile an abundance of resources. It is unseen by most. The Gopher knows there are some big carrots out there. The Gopher is on the hunt.

Garcia has not put his name in the portal, if I recall- so if that were the case- perhaps we already have struck deal with him assuming he can get the added year. Did he put his name in for the NBA draft? I would assume so...

This adds another question- if a guy enters the NBA draft but doesn't get drafted, why would he not be able to put himself out for bid at the college level if he has eligibility. The "you have turned pro" argument no longer exists.

My post wasn't about Garcia per se, just that there are a bunch of players without eligibility in the portal (Odukale just entered today I believe)

Depends on when the decision can be expected. If it's coming this week, and there's someone he's interested in, he could wait it out and be OK IMO. If there's no ruling in sight, I agree with you
 

If a ruling was in sight we would know about it. Are we even sure there has been any movement at all on this?

The odds are not in Garcia's favor...but we can hold a spot for him and still recruit the rest of the positions we need.

Yep. Assume Niko has a really good sense on where things stand with Garcia and the likelihood that he would or would not come back if the option becomes available to him.

That said, there are still plenty of spots available on the roster so they can hold out hope on Garcia while still actively working to fill the remaining spots. Not in an either/or position.

If by some miracle it ends up working out for Garcia to come back that would be a massive boost for the 25-26 season.
 

Anyone hearing any names? I haven't heard much lately. I do wonder if it has to do with the portal closing. With no new names able to enter we can understand where we are and build off that. Still looking for a sharp shooting guard and another big. After that developmental pieces.
 


The portal window closing temporarily might be an advantage for new coaches like Medved. A chance to get their legs under them, establish a local recruiting presence, and reassess the pool of available transfer talent.
