2025 Transfer Portal Watch

WI, WA and MN ahead of IND and USC? I call shenanigans.
On3 ranking system is different than traditional ranking sites. Instead of comparing your transfers against other teams it compares who you bring in vs who you lost from the portal. A high on3 ranking just means that you did a good job replacing outgoing transfers with higher rated incoming transfers.

Every other human being in the United States has the right to determine their life as opposed to these college students who have to deal with the NCAA, an organization that does not represent their needs. I'll set up an LLC tomorrow to regulate your life tomorrow in the name of fairness to all the other sports bulletin boards. You can only transfer to another board to make a post if you apply in a narrow window in May and the board has to accept you. We are doing this to keep your amateur writer status pure.

Thanks for the clarification, Rico. It seemed odd on face value alone. What golf posted makes more sense now. 👍

I don't really care if the players get another year or not but would love to see things get to the point where the eligibility rules make sense the way they used to in the good ole days. :)
Just make it 5 years and be done with it. No redshirts, no hardship waivers. Just 5 years no matter what.

The no matter what part seems to be the problem because there is always someone ready to launch a court battle for one reason or another these days. Covid really messed up eligibility and the recent explosion in available money has motivated a lot of guys to look for other ways to hang on as long as possible to get as much as they can out of the system.

Just against what a team lost in the portal or what a team lost overall? We lost 5 starters/rotational players to eligibility (although two of those actually are in the portal), two rotational players with eligibility (Frank Mitchell and Rigsby; didn't count Betts as he played little) to the portal, and another who didn't play at all (Cochran) to the portal.

I can see why our transfer class would be rated well because we have 6 commits (only a few teams have more) and all of them have some record of achievement at their prior schools. As always, we have to wait until the games are played to see how good they really are.

This guy graduated HS in 2019 and will turn 26 in-season. This will be his 7th year out of HS.

2019-2020: Post grad year in Ohio
2020-2021: Duquesne
2021-2022: San Diego State
2022-2023: NW Florida State
2023-2025: Auburn
2025-2026: ?

I wonder if we see more guys do post-grad years and JUCOs if they don't count towards eligibility, as a way of not running out their NIL clock and boosting their stock. Opportunities for cash in college seem a lot better than D league or Europe or most other options.

You’re probably right. NCAA hockey has a significant post grad system. Seems to boost guys.

Any relation to Parker Fox?

Haha I was thinking about him…but at least he missed 2 seasons due to injury.

On that note I think we will see a lot more guys medically redshirt as well like Tyler Cochran or BJ Omot (not sure when he could have come back but saw some speculation he shut it down to preserve a year of eligibility).

I saw that but he may have an argument. He only played in 3 games (3 minutes) his freshman year at Baylor.
Correction. He redshirted during Covid (20/21). Then played 3 games the next year and transferred to Illinois (21/22). Played 2 years at Illinois (22/23 and 23/24) and then one at Memphis (24/25). Would be a homerun if he is granted an extra year of eligibility and came here (I doubt he comes here).
