2025 NCAA Hockey National Championship Game Thread

Western was an amazing team. Hung three banners coming out of the best conference. I don't think I even had then in top 10 consideration last summer.

Congrats to WMU. Sad thing is that the Gophers were every bit as good as these two teams.

Crazy Stat from Schloss: the list of first-round picks to win an NCAA title since 2018: Riley Tufte, Zeev Buium. End of list. 3 of last 4 NCAA champs had no top-65 picks

Unfortunately the Gophers experienced Rinzel and Moore (and looking back, Chesley) mentally checking out for the pros so it kinda jives. Hard to manage those guys. 22-23 was the best team I ever saw as far as buy in for the goal at hand

Or crazy stat from atsgopher, posting directly to you.

Hockey is fairly unpredictable.

Here is the preseason poll:

(1) Denver - underperformed that ranking in regular season, made Frozen 4
(2) BC - #1 most of the year, missed Frozen 4
(3) Boston - underperformed that ranking in regular season, made Frozen 4
(4) Michigan State - great regular season, missed Frozen 4
(5) North Dakota - missed everything
(6) Minnesota - performed slightly above ranking most of year, missed Frozen 4
(7) Michigan - missed everything
(8) Quinnipiac - underperformed that ranking in regular season, missed Frozen 4
(9) Cornell - underperformed that ranking in regular season, missed Frozen 4
(10) Wisconsin - missed everything
(11) Colorado College - missed everything
(12) Maine - performed above the ranking
(13) Providence - performed slightly above ranking
(14) U-Mass - performed right at ranking
(15) Omaha - missed everything
(16) St. Cloud State - wildly underperformed, missed everything
(17) Western Michigan - wildly overperformed, national champions
(18) UMD - wildly underperformed, missed everything
(19) Notre Dame - missed everything
(20) Arizona State - slightly outperformed this

(unranked) Penn State - made Frozen 4
(unranked) Ohio State - made NCAA
(unranked) Minnesota State - made NCAA
(unranked) Connecticut - made NCAA

the final KRACH ratings show you that it was a very wide-open kind of year with WMU finishing at 669.2 and BC at 669.1
Ratings are then MSU, Maine, BU, MN, DU, UConn, Prov, OSU, PSU

That results in the lowest round robin winning percentage for the top ranked team since 2017-18.
