Twitter rumor

That would be a great hire if the rumor is true. I used to run into Derrin occasionally when he was in his first stint at Osseo, probably around 2011 or so. He told me that he would get his team fired up to play the privileged rich kids at Wayzata with their enormous school and immaculate facilities by telling them how Wayzata's team didn't think kids from Osseo belonged on the same field with them. He said it worked great and his team always came out of the gates with their hair on fire. After taking a beat, he said "and then they would drag us up and down the field the last three quarters."

And if true, he’s now telling them that they can’t compete on the same field.

That seems harsh, but maybe leaving after only one year back at Osseo would be sending that message. I am not sure that the gap between the two programs now is the same as it was back when I knew him, and Osseo did win a title since then, but there are certainly resource and facility advantages at Wayzata today.

Lamker is a name I have heard

I have heard they have had conversations with two sitting 6a head coaches who aren’t Lamker

One has backed out of the process.

Coaches run from or burn out at hard jobs. Osseo is a hard job. It's hard to get numbers. Even basketball isn't as strong as it used to be. Facilities are not an issue at Osseo, it's economics and demographics of the draw area. It takes a special coach to buy in and get buy in at some schools.

I’m not sure where I saw de la salle posted. But I no longer see it. De la salle may have been fake news

Wayzata - filled Lamker

As a Wayzata football parent, we got the press release on the hire yesterday, but I'd heard some rumors for a couple days.

I kind of agree with what was said above. The optics of leaving a program after one year aren't great. It feels like a high school version of Lane Kiffin.

One thing I wonder - and this is total speculation with no basis other than my thoughts...
The Osseo district has three high schools with extremely different socio-economic populations. You have Maple Grove, which is much more like Wayzata-Tonka-Edina-Eden Prairie. Then you have Osseo and Park Center, which, lets face it, are not. I wonder if there wasn't some frustration over perceived inequalities within the district itself.

He just wants the easier job to win at and the more prestigious job. You're not far off on the Kiffin comparison IMO, but it takes a special breed to be a HS coach in 2025. I couldn't do it. Good luck to Wayzata.

That’s a really difficult district to be in.

This reminds me of the Dave Nelson Blaine to Minnetonka move.

I also think it’s a good hire for Wayzata as he already scratched his itch to be a college coach. I bet they get 6+ years out of him Which is about all you can expect these days

Wayzata may pay more too.

I don't think anyone is getting rich coaching high school football in Minnesota.
No but the other job he will do at the school may pay more.
Wayzata as its own school district can create positions much easier than osseo

A few thousand dollars is a few thousand dollars. Just guessing at the amount though.
It’s likely within a couple hundred for the football job.

But Wayzata also gave him a job. Which if it’s near a paraprofessional salary is not very much, if it’s near an assistant admin salary it’s a lot more.
It’s probably its own thing and will be hard to find.
I have no idea what he did for osseo schools but I’m guessing he isn’t taking a pay cut to leave
