2025 Minnesota High School Football Thread

Down goes Byron in rematch with Kasson Mantorville 31-28. Jackson 30-6 over LeSueur. JCC scored late in 2nd and was only up 8-0 at half.

Springfield loses to Murray County Central. 31-20.
At least Springfield doesn't have to worry about getting smoked by Minneota for second again.

Rochester Mayo 17
Northfield 7

3 TOs did the Raiders in as well as getting inside or near the Red Zone 4 times, but only scoring once.

Seeding is out. 9P to 5A splits and seeds 1-4 for North and South.

Can someone explain to me how Elk River got the 1 seed in the north!!??? For 5A.

1. Elk River has 2 losses Monticello by 8 (didn’t make it to state but really good team) and lost to Alexandria by 36.

2. Alexandria got the 2. Have 1 loss on a GW FG to Chan who is the 2 seed in the South. Once again they beat Elk River by 36!!!!!!!!

3. Spring lake Park, undefeated but had a perceived weaker schedule. But they are still undefeated.

How on earth did Elk River get the 1 seed. I want someone to explain the logic or an say a rule on aware of.

Unethical voting by the coach team not mentioned. Coaches can’t help themselves sometimes and vote based on who they want to play. This is one of the downsides of seeding by coaches.

That Elk River seed is absolutely horrendous. They got Mercy-ruled by Alexandria. The league letting that stand really undermines their credibility.

I was thinking the same about KM. It’s been 25 years since I was there, but the two combined were only 5k; last I knew Fergus was 10k or so?
Fergus pop has been inbetween 12-14k since 1950. Only just in 2020 did it (barely) top 14k.

Have to believe some number of those are claiming Fergus as their full time home but do not live there in winter? Granted similarly the pop may swell during the summer.

I've known people who live in Fergus or DL and commute to Fargo-Moorhead.

Coaches vote bad
QRF worse
Committee by MSHSL double worse

So basically coaches vote is least bad option

Do all 8 coaches vote? I assume just the 4 coaches from the North vote those 4 teams and the coaches from the South vote on just theirs?

You vote for the 7 not you at section coaches vote
Honestly don’t know how it is at this level

Assume it’s the same but can’t confirm

Just the 4 coaches for the North or south for their respective bracket. You vote for the other 3 teams, you seed them 1-3 and then its averaged out after that. Seems to be some shinnanagans are going on in 5A and it could have been over ruled I would think

The district boundaries don't stop at city limits.

City/town Population doesn't really correlate to school enrolment either
Alexandria just under 15K and is a 5A so by comparison to FF less than 1000 people more and a class higher

Pillager Population is 531 - their school website says more than 1300 enrolled kids k-12

Spring Lake Park is a 6 Sq. Mile city of 7,000 people. Located on 81st Ave. The district boundary however runs all the way north to 125th, Main in Blaine and includes the Lakes Area all around the National Sports Center. They are the largest 5A school below Apple Valley and Burnsville.

Fergus Falls has 14,000 people saw 12% growth over COVID years and is 83% White and only 30% free and reduced lunch. Statistical area for the School is 57,000 population.

Don't tell MplsGopher (RIP). He never understood how school districts work or that they are separate units of government.

Dude...what are you doing......don't say that name around here.....he might come back....

So i was just doing some thinking on the current playoff format...

If we seeded at the section championship level 1-16. People have always brought up the travel issue. Well that could be avoided to a large degree by keeping these neutral sights we are already using for the section championship games.

If teams like Mahnomen or Barnesville had to play Springfield or Jackson County, there are sights about half way for all corners of the state for the section championships already. I just hate the fact we aren't getting probably even 6 of the best teams to the quarter finials.
