2025 Minnesota High School Football Thread

I’ll be at the MV Rogers game. I’m seeing this as a close game and wouldn’t be surprised if Rogers wins. They’ve got a nice two way kid. Plays rb and safety going to UMD. Game will be won in the trenches as JG would say.
Moundsview doesn’t beat themselves in my experience but don’t think they’re overly talented this year

Know zero about rogers

You have to be on all the top club teams to even have a chance at making varsity at that level.
I think there are a lot of people who don't live in these districts who don't realize that this is what youth/high school sports is now at this level and the money involved. And as I've been saying, it's the years-long investment in these sports that leads a lot of these athletes into dropping football.

Looks like Blaine and Osseo the only home teams to lose to Moorhead and STMA. Eagan almost got Woodbury.

All plays that could have changed the Blaine/Moorhead game went Moorhead’s way. Blaine turned it over twice in first half and dropped 3 interceptions. Second half they did perfect onside to open and didn’t fall on it and then couldn’t fall on a strip sack.

Hope to see ball control Centennial and Moorhead match-up.

Woodbury was the only 1/2 seed to get tested - looks like the rest all won comfortably.

Rosemount game was over after the second play from scrimmage, starters on the bench early in the 2nd quarter...tough to watch but fun for the young guys to get a lot of game snaps against the starters from Park. Feel bad for those relief teams....they just can't compete with decent opponents.

Real fun begins next week, assume there will be a number of really competitive games.

So ... should the 6A bracket go down from 32 to 16 and save a game of wear on the boys?

Out of 16 games, only 2 home teams lost.

No because they actual get 9 days off leading into the playoffs.
Could add a 9th regular season game and reduce the bracket to 16.

I don't like the idea of everyone makes it. That would mean in 6A that those bottom 16 teams ... have a better chance to end the season with a win instead of an almost guaranteed loss?

I would be in favors of not everyone makes it if the number was more like 2/3

Make 6a 48 teams. Top 32 make it
Or make it 24. 16 make it

6A is the only class that makes any sense whatsoever in MN high school football. The MSHSL should fix football for the other 330 teams before messing with 6A more. The lower clases have teams playing 4 games in 15 days. Leaves little time for game planning, practice or recovery for the athletes

Albert Lea lost to Luverne
Chatfield and Triton upset as 1 and 2 seeds. Pierce was hobbled by week 8 injury.

9 man with one road win
1A with three
2A with five
3A with three
4A with one
5A with three

The answer is to standardize a 32 team playoff for each class

The Arizona Intercollegiate Association may have figured this out by having an Open Division State Championship. 8 teams fight for the true state championship and the remaining 12 for the 6A. Eliminates the Section type playoffs

For the 2025 AIA Open Division football tournament.
a 20-team tournament bracket will be created for the 6A conference, with the top four seeds receiving a bye. The winners of the first-round games (seeds 5-12) will advance to the quarterfinals to play the top four seeded teams, while the first-round losers will be moved into the 6A playoff bracket, which will be seeded based on AIA rankings

Frazee quite possibly the weakest AA team to ever earn a #1 seed. They lost to Hawley yesterday and imho it wasn't an upset. Frazee played a 1A schedule and was handled by a pair of 1A schools. Not surprising they lost the 1st game against a school who played in class AA all season

Instant classic in 5A tonight. Northfield was down 10 with 2 minutes to go and won beating owatonna
Was watching that game online and when Northfield went for it on 4th down from inside their own 5, I turned it off and looked for some other game. What happened?

Minneapolis City will be represented at State in 5A. Southwest will travel to Washburn as they beat St. Louis Park and Bloomington Jefferson today.
If you want proof of the broken system look at that section.
3-5 Jefferson was one seed because coaches vote the three non city teams (likely in good faith due to SOS) voted together against the two city teams

Section final is the two teams with the best records who are seeded 3-4

The good guys won.

Raiders gave up a TD, scored a TD, recovered an onside kick, scored another TD, hung as the Huskies missed a 40 yd FG at the gun.

Advance to play Mayo.
