2025 Bowl Projection Tracker

That Iowa game ruled! Marquis Gray. Onside kick. Moment of happiness during a bleak season
Pretty sure you’re thinking of the 2011 game, Kill’s first season. The Jeff Horton game was Adam Weber’s finale, clinched when Troy Stoudermire recovered a Marcus Coker fumble. Both victories against Iowa eased the pain of difficult seasons.

Yeah you're right. Any time we beat Iowa is a great feeling

Both KSU and ISU paying conference $500,000 to stay home.
Teams turning down bowl bids makes sense in this current landscape, everything else is backwards, may as well have teams deciding not to play in bowl games as well and paying their conferences not to go.

You're attacking a strawman. Don't think anyone is making the argument that bowl games are more important than regular season conference games.
Not an attack, just a statement.

Going to Dublin for both Iowa St & Kansas St was a far better experience than either would have gotten than playing Minnesota in the Arizona Diamondbacks baseball facility.

Understatement.

Yes....and it was never an either/or situation so I'm not sure what point you're trying to make.

Like I've said before in the past: "what does Coyle do?". Can't fundraise and obviously didnt advocate for Vegas.
Great ? The only thing he has proven is that he is a horrible communicator which I would think should be an important part of his job. I’d really like to know what he is doing in obtaining NIL.

Kansas St & Iowa St (including their fanbases) have both had a better unique experience by going to Dublin which also tacked on an extra week to their season. Better than any Non-CFP Team.

Going to Phoenix pales by comparison.

Correct only the CFP has meaning in today's world. Players, Coaches and now entire teams are opting out.

If all the Non-Playoff Bowls completely disappeared, I wouldn't lament it for a single second.

You don't care where the Gophers go bowling, and you won't bother to watch, then, I assume. The bowl will be meaningless. Yes?

That's subjective. Lots of people can't justify a trip to Dublin for a football game. Second.....I'd argue that there are fans that may be more likely to make a trip over winter break when it's cold......to a place like Arizona.

But once again....there was never a situation in which these teams could either go to Dublin OR play in a bowl game. They could do both.....so the argument that you're having with ghosts over which game matters more is irrelevant.

Not a Coyle apologist but since what he does for the program is a question being thrown around, the Strib's write-up on Friday of possible bowl destinations includes some data. Since behind a paywall, here's the money-lines applicable to the discussion:

--------------------------------------------

“We’ve had pretty good experiences with Minnesota in the past in our game,” said Erik Moses, executive director and CEO of the Fiesta Sports Foundation, which runs the Rate Bowl. “The last time they were here with us, they did well on their ticket sales. … We like to think that our destination is a pretty compelling spot to be in December if you’re from Minnesota."

The Gophers last played in Phoenix in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl in 2021, when they beat West Virginia 18-6. They played in its predecessor, the Insight Bowl in Tempe, Ariz., in 2006, ’08 and ’09.

The Big Ten team in the Rate Bowl will have an opponent from the Big 12, and Moses spoke highly of a potential Upper Midwest matchup at Chase Field, home of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
“We sure wouldn’t mind a Minnesota-Iowa State matchup to harken back to the old times,” Moses said.

The Gophers sold their entire ticket allotment for the 2021 Guaranteed Rate Bowl, and Moses is impressed with how Minnesota athletic director Mark Coyle and coach P.J. Fleck promote their program.

“We think really highly of Mark Coyle and obviously P.J. as well,” Moses said.

------------------------------------

Maybe Mr. Moses had to say this...or maybe not...but at least someone outside the program is willing to go out on that limb. We'll see where we land shortly. Ski U Bowling...again.

They're pretty good actually and probably won't have half their team opt out. Could be worse.
that is worse. a no boost for winning, only hit for losing game is literally the worst outcome. non team we compete against for recruits. location we don't really recruit. yep this is a real seller

You don't care where the Gophers go bowling,

No, not even remotely on the "where" or "who they play aspect".

you won't bother to watch

Depends on the date/time (to at least watch it live)

The bowl will be meaningless. Yes?
Whether I (or others) watch or not doesn't impact the lack of meaning to the game for me.

I guarantee the Gopher Bowl will be the only Non-CFP contest I watch.

Yeah, it could. We could lose the game which would not be the best PR for this program right now.

I don't think there's any boost or hit from winning or losing a 2nd rate bowl game.
