2025 Bowl Projection Tracker

I agree with you but, given this team, I'm fine with them playing a lesser B12 team. Last year's team and this year's team have identical overall and conference records but last year's team seemed like a strong 7-5 while this year's team seems like a weak 7-5.
Don't count your chickens before they hatch.

We haven't been announced for a bowl yet.

No bowl matchup has been officially announced. The dubious On3 has been the ‘source’ for the announcements. Although I think the Pinstripe Bowl is a lock for Pitt vs PSU because it makes too much sense.

The official bowl announcement show is tomorrow.

I assume this is bc it’s hard to find an appointment willing to go toe-to-toe with peeej in meaningless bowl games. Our guy is addicted to winning these things. 😏

I think more people will actually watch the Pinstripe if that's the matchup. And I suspect Pitt will show up wanting blood.

I’m not sure how well Nebraska fans will travel to any bowl game this year. They are down their starting QB, Defensive Coordinator and Offensive Line coach (although they just hired a new one), which means they probably won’t win their bowl game, and the fans know it.

Would you rather spend NYE/NYD in Lincoln or Vegas?? Zero issue with tickets

Would be cool to see PItt Vs. Penn State. That game should happen yearly. See if the powers that be want it to happen. I know there were years Texas and Texas A&M were in the Big 12 and SEC respectively, both eligible for similar post season play, and the latter wanted to avoid the Longhorns in bowl games.

Believe we were the last Big Ten team in Detroit. Can't imagine the Big Ten jumping Northwestern over us and sticking us in the Cheap Tires Bowl again.

This is true ... but Brett McMurphy usually is privy to leaking of who the bowls plan to pick.

It'd be one thing if we lost the Wisc game, but with us winning, NW losing to Illinois and finishing 6-6, there's just no way NW doesn't go to Detroit.

lol. That still does not prove there’s some kind of conspiracy to keep the gophers out of Nashville. At the end of the day, the big tennis science teams along with the ball committee and they pick who they pick.
No need for any conspiracy.

The 2002 game (Gophers vs Arkansas) was the lowest attendance game in Music City Bowl history, and the only time the game drew less than 40k.

The 2nd lowest attendance was the 2005 game ... Gophers vs Virginia.

To be fair, the 2004 game was highly attended, Gophers vs Alabama. AND the last three years both games featuring Iowa had attendance 42k-43k which is on the low end. So there's that

ESPN prediction:

Rate Bowl
Chase Field (Phoenix)
4:30 p.m., ESPN

Bonagura: Minnesota vs. Kansas State
Schlabach: Minnesota vs. Iowa State

College Football News and Sporting News both have us playing Cincinnati in the Rate Bowl. 🤮
Barf because of the Bowl, because of the opponent, or both?

I think playing K-State or Iowa State in PHX is a fine deal, for what we ended up with as a record this year. Cincy has less appeal, for sure.

Opponent. Matchup vs Iowa State would be a good result.

Barf because of the date, too. Too close to Christmas to travel to the game. Try saying hey family I would like to skip Christmas to go to this meaningless bowl game.
Granted you could fly down the morning of the 26th. MSP - PHX is a competitive route with Delta, American (PHX hub), Southwest (PHX hub), and Sun Country all serving it.

230pm game ... you could probably even fly back on a late flight the same day

Agreed. It's not the most egregious snub in the world but Gophers did get snubbed. It's ok to acknowledge it
Yup, this is how I feel. Let’s admit that if logic and “fairness” were applied to bowl placements, MN would be in Vegas or Nashville with a better conference record AND thorough H2H win over Nebraska. So if Coyle did indeed lobby this year for a placement other than Phoenix, MN got snubbed straight up on the assumption that Nebraska will bring more eyeballs and traveling fans. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of life…but a 3/10 on the irritation scale lol.

I'm not as irritated as in years past.....mostly because I think we've had better teams snubbed. But you'd like to think we'd get the benefit of the doubt every once in a while. But again.....an Iowa State matchup would be a really good result, imo.

I have some questions for the folks who use the term meaningless to describe the Gophers upcoming bowl game...

1) What makes any college bowl game meaningful vs meaningless? Is it only the playoff games that have meaning?

2) In point of fact, how meaningful is any college football game, really, in the grand scheme of life?

I think of watching football as one form of entertainment. If the U announced they were giving up football tomorrow, I'd be disappointed but I would eventually shrug and get on with my life. But as a form of entertainment, a game in Phoenix or Detroit or New York is better — and therefore more meaningful — than no game at all. That means it isn't meaningless.

I enjoy it, therefore it has meaning. If you find it truly and utterly meaningless, why do you bother watching?

You can make a semi-logical reason for Vegas.
7-5 Minnesota was not snubbed or jumped-over for Nashville.

If you consider the games entertainment, which I do as well, you must’ve had a significant lack of entertainment this year!.

That said, if we play Iowa State in Phoenix, that’s a great result.
