2025 Bowl Projection Tracker

I just looked at the 2029 Bowl Projections:

  • CBS Sports is projecting a rematch with Virginia Tech in the Pinstripe Bowl
  • The Game Haus is projecting a Pinstripe Bowl game against Syracuse
  • College Football News has Minnesota playing Syracuse in the Pinstripe Bowl
  • Sporting News is projecting Minnesota to play Syracuse in the Pinstripe Bowl
  • Athlon Sports has Minnesota playing Syracuse in the Pinstripe Bowl
  • ESPN Bowl tracker has Syracuse matching up with Minnesota in the Pinstripe Bowl
  • Fox Sports Bowl Insider projects the Gophers to play Syracuse in the Pinstripe Bowl
  • A kid leaving Yankee Stadium yesterday after a rare Twins win there says he is sure the 2029 college football season will end with Minnesota playing Syracuse in the Pinstripe Bowl
  • College Football Today has the Gophers playing Duke in the Pinstripe Bowl
  • Sports Illustrated has a Gophers/Syracuse matchup for the Pinstripe Bowl
  • The Minnesota Daily predicts the Gophers will meet St. Thomas in the Pinstripe Bowl
  • The Rocky Mountain Times has the Gophers matching up with Syracuse in the Pinstripe Bowl
  • The Atlanta Constitution has the Gophers facing Syracuse in the Rate Bowl.
  • The Onamia Times predicts the Gophers will play Syracuse in the Pinstripe Bowl.
  • The Association for Southern Sports Journalism says the Gophers will play Syracuse in the Pinstripe Bowl.
  • The New Ulm Journal predicts the Gophers will be playing Syracuse in the Pinstripe bowl but the game will be renamed the Bronx Bomber Bowl for 2029 through 2034, at which time it will be renamed the Pinstripe Bowl.

With all the things he’s done right the bowl games have gone to under PJ have really sucked. If he can turn that around and get us consistently into NYD type bowls, hell I’d commission a statue for the guy. Can’t let games like the North Carolina last year getaway and need to start beating Iowa more consistently; for starters.

Yes, the bowl assignments have been underwhelming which is why one can't blame the publications for predicting Minnesota to go to one of those. If the team can get to 9 or more regular season wins the placement probably would be higher but I'm not seeing the publications predicting an outcome that good. One article was pretty high on the team and said that anything under 8 wins for this team would be a disappointment but that was a rare bullish appraisal.

On the bright side, the fact that most of our bowl opponents have been underwhelming has helped us achieve the current longest active bowl winning streak in FBS (8 straight). That streak is also tied for 3rd place among the longest bowl winning streaks in history. The second longest current streak is Ohio University with 6 straight bowl wins.

The bowls still have something to do with this. If we have about the same record as Iowa or Nebraska, most of the bowls likely will prefer them based on their traveling histories.

This. Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin, probably most of new PAC 12/Big 10.

Yeah, but that's been the case for a while with bowls picking Minnesota. It took all the way until 2014 just to get a New Year's Day bowl, and that was a season where the Gophers probably benefitted from Penn State and Michigan having down years.

Look at the other years where Minnesota had 8 or more regular season wins, aside from 2019, with or without Fleck. Gophers had such seasons in 1999, 2003, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2021 and 2022. In those seven seasons, they went to the Sun, Texas, Citrus, Holiday, Rate, and Pinstripe Bowls. They only had a New Year's Day game once.

In that same time frame, since 1999, Michigan, Iowa, Wisconsin, Purdue, Illinois, Nebraska, Michigan State and Penn State teams with 8 or 9 wins were invited to 4 Alamo Bowls (higher profile), 11 Citrus Bowls and 16 Outback/ReliaQuest Bowls.

Pre-season bowl projections.....one of the most worthless of all the worthless preseason predictions that get published this time of year..... :)

I still think it would be interesting but tedious as hell to track these predictions to see if they even get a single matchup prediction right....

Suppose someone could dig up this thread from last year and see if anyone predicted our game and opponent correctly. Sure there were plenty that got the game right because there are only so many to pick from for a non playoff team in the Big Ten.

Edit - did a quick look at the 2024 thread. Around October 20th someone finally predicted the Duke's Mayo Bowl. On the 27th ESPN "experts" got the opponent right but location wrong and location right but opponent wrong.....so yeah....can't even get it right in October but they still waste time with projections in July.
