2025-26 College Football Coach Fired/Hired Thread

I think it’s crazy for him to move. He has a much more winnable schedule at BYU and the Mormons seems more reasonable than the folks in happy valley.

I think PSU currently is closer to Iowa, Minnesota, or Wisconsin than they are to Ohio State, Oregon, or Michigan.
If he goes 9-3 the next five years at BYU, he’ll still be there.

If he goes 9-3 the next five years at PSU, he’ll be gone (might not make it to five years).

Smart move is to negotiate a raise at BYU, which I’m sure they can afford

Navy OC Drew Cronic turned down UAB (lol). Could be a candidate for JMU

I think it's a case that the loudest boosters never wanted him in the first place and the results only escalated the noise
in that case, the boosters are going to lose. Fitz at best gets MSU to middle of the B10. Smith would probably have gotten them there if given the chance. I don't think Fitz's "NW cred/schtick" will go well at MSU. For a school digging out from multiple scandals, why not bring in a guy who got fired due to another scandal? what could go wrong?

Can't wait for the Detroit reporters to dig into the real story of Fitz's involvement and further bury MSU.

Does he? What makes you think that? Things have changed since last he coached and he didn't seem to "get Big Ten Football" then. And he was in the Big Ten West...

I mean sure I guess middle of the pack is fine...but they are currently paying their former coach $30 million to go away so I am not sure why you do that in the hopes you can be on the level of say The Gophers. YMMV.
I believe he does. We shall see. He knows football. He's had success before in a tougher situation with fewer resources. I'm pretty sure he hasn't been living under a rock as far as changes are concerned with recruiting, portal, NIL, etc...... Perhaps MSU wouldn't be happy with Gopher type results but what if he produces teams like Illinois last year and Iowa this season. Let's face it, nobody is breaking into the top 4 without a huge investment or at least the planets aligning for 1 season.

Just seemed awful strange, they were talking firing before the season, he appears to be a competent guy. Michigan State hasn’t even recovered from Mel
Tuckers crapfest. Not sure they really made a huge upgrade here.

Oregon State has been filled...

Will be interesting to see where PSU goes if he ends up staying put. Been a very quiet coaching search for such a high profile job that has been open as long as it has been.
It is going to be super interesting.

I hope they flounder and are the new Nebraska

When you're located in the middle of nowhere, don't have the same money that Ohio St, Oregon, and Michigan has, fire your long time head coach 6 games into the season after winning 2 CFP games the previous season, you're going to struggle to find a new HC that wants to sign up for that.

You get what you deserve.

I love me some PJ, but picking PJ would be a strange choice for a team that was really good but just couldn't beat the tOSUs and Michigan's of the world.
I feel PJ would be Franklin 2.0 at PSU. They might have to go with interim guy.
