The Big 12 has added a lot of teams that aren't at the top-end the same as Texas and OU but are in that mid-high range like K-State, so there are more opportunities for losses.

How’s it not easier to beat 9 mediocre teams vs 7 mediocres and 2 greats?

Minnesota is one of the worst locations for recruiting of any p4 school. Yes there’s less competition, but there’s like 100 times more viable prospects in California.

Again I disagree with your characterization.

Every conference has lower teams each year. In 2022 the Big 12 only had 10 teams and was the last major conf to still play a full round robin. Last year they were up to 16 teams (still 9 conf games). The 8 added teams, mostly were programs that are at the level of K-State.

So I think it will be tougher for Klieman to have a 2022 like season in the current configuration.

Every P4 school, or nearly every one, I would guess is spending the full or close to the full $20.5M of in-house NIL payments (my term).

Not all of that goes to football of course, but would guess $10-15M at most schools.

And I'm guessing they're going to pay staff the going rate for a mid-tier Big Ten school.

So they have money.


Guessing he was talking about 3rd-party NIL, which is going to start being quite limited due to the clearinghouse anyway, which I personally think is a great thing
 





Certainly seemed like it was time to move on after last year and the start to this one. I'm sure it's bittersweet, and he will likely be honored and celebrated a couple years from now.

He's the winningest coach they've had and has a solid resume. All things considered, in a conference with Blue Bloods Texas, Oklahoma and Nebraska, plus the rise of teams like TCU, Baylor, as well as solid programs like K-State and Texas A&M, I'd think he's a success.

Not only is he the winningest coach in their history, he has over 100 more wins than the guy in second place. Pretty impressive run for a coach at a school that isn't even the best program in his own state.

The athletic dept. at UCLA is something like $100 million in debt, and isn't some of their B1G money getting funneled to Cal as part of some agreement? As mentioned, their facilities are really poor (they don't have a 100 yard practice field.). They're second fiddle in their own market to USC. They play an hour or more from campus with LA traffic. And I would guess a significant amount of money goes to their hoops program.
