Thought I would get this started so people can post thoughts and updates as we head into State Tournament time.

Girls State Tournament is next week. Boys will be wrapping up Section finals this week and Boys state tournament the following week.

FWIW - here are the pairings for the Girls State Tournament

CLASS 4A​

Wednesday’s quarterfinals (Williams Arena)​

No. 1 Hopkins vs. White Bear Lake, 10 a.m.
No. 4 Maple Grove vs. No. 5 Lakeville North, 12 p.m.
No. 2 Minnetonka vs. Andover, 2 p.m.
No. 3 St. Michael-Albertville vs. Rosemount, 4 p.m.

CLASS 3A​

Wednesday’s quarterfinals (Maturi Pavilion)​

No. 1 Benilde-St. Margaret’s vs. Minneapolis Roosevelt, 10 a.m.

If you missed it - in Boys BB there was a fairly significant upset in Class A.

in the Section 3-A tournament, Dawson-Boyd - the #2-ranked team in the state for most of the season, was upset by Minneota 61-57 last Thursday. D-B was the #1 seed in the North Sub-Section while Minneota was the #4 seed. then in the next round, Minneota lost to #3 seed Central MN Christian (located in the metropolis of Prinsburg)

so the Section Championship will be between Central MN Christian and Russell-Tyler-Ruthton. RTR is the defending Class A State Champs. RTR was only 11-7 at one point this season but has now run off 11 wins in a row and takes a 22-7 record into the Section Finals.

with Dawson-Boyd out of the picture, the question remains whether anyone in Class A can knock off Cherry, the consensus #1-ranked team.

I was at the game. It was a beat down. Wasn't ever really close. Wayzata was dropping threes effortlessly and Hopkins couldn't do anything about it. McAndrew had 40 points and was more or less unstoppable - Hopkins doesn't have anyone who can match his height and wingspan..

I love to watch Hopkins coach Novak lose his shit when things aren't going his way.

Retired basketball official here. A kick has to be an intentional act for it to be a violation and whistle. It looks like the ball inadvertently glanced off the Osseo player, which is not a violation.

Crap. Forest Lake (my alma mater) fell to Coon Rapids by 3 in the section final. I was bummed to find out it wasn't available to stream, but I wasn't going to drive all the way up to Princeton for the game.

Section 8 3A Championship goes to Alexandria 91-45 over St. Cloud Tech. No details, but it looks like Grayson Grove is going back to state.

Grove finished with 18 points. Tech's Tameron Ferguson ended up with 17 (averaged 36.2 ppg.

I'm fairly certain that due to the timing of the foul, even if a technical foul had been issued, the rules state that OT happens no matter what the outcome of the foul shots.
