• Virginia Tech (6-6) vs. Minnesota (7-5)

Either Brent Pry or PJ Fleck will find themselves covered in mayonnaise after this game. What a reward for winning a bowl game. VT's Bhayshul Tuten is one of the most fun running backs in college football. Minnesota has relied more on QB Max Brosmer this year and has thrown the ball more than it has run it.

The Hokies and Golden Gophers have never met on the gridiron. The extended time off until kickoff on Jan. 3 should benefit Virginia Tech after quarterback Kyron Drones and running back Bhayshul Tuten battled injuries late in the season. Minnesota wasn't overly prolific on offense, but coach PJ Fleck's team held opponents to 17.5 points a game this year. Points could be at a premium.

Friday, Jan. 3 | 7:30 p.m. -- Who doesn't love a good mayonnaise bath to begin the new year? P.J. Fleck hopes to improve to 6-0 in bowl games with the Golden Gophers in Charlotte against the Hokies. Virginia Tech was ranked inside the preseason top 25 in August before a season-opening loss at Vanderbilt tempered expectations a bit. Three losses in November means this team is stumbling into the bowl game with the only silver-lining opportunity coming in the form of a win.

I don't see how BC vs NE is better than the Gophers game. Nebraska and BC were never close to being in the conversation. Gophers at least beat some good teams and made interesting with some others. BC and NE have zero quality wins between them. Even if I wasn't a Gophers fan VT vs MN looks a lot more fun to me.
