2024-25 Gopher Hockey Season

Holy shit. Two shutouts against Michigan with two different goalies. (When was the last double shutout against them?)

Huge sweep. Even without Hage, learned more about this team in two games than the 16 before them.

At full strength, a no brainer Frozen Four caliber team. Better hockey team than 20-21, 21-22, and 23-24. No question.

Rinzel could be a Hobey top 3 finalist.

Fuck Michigan. Go Gophers.

Did I say Fuck these cheap Michigan fucks?
Not nearly enough. F'ing goons!

I’m the biggest critic of bonin but I won’t accuse him of not being a passionate fan. I always appreciate his hatred of our rivals.
bonin loves Gopher hockey as much as anyone. He’s a glass half empty type fan but knowledgeable and passionate.

It means nothing but be honest, it's fun... Wonder if the Gophers jump to number 1.
Pwr or uscho poll? Too many permutations to me in pwr and too early to care deeply.

Uscho poll, yes

That was my most vociferous booing in years-especially the cheap hit on Snuggarud.

What's with Mariucci not showing replays to protect the innocent?

Anyway, a crazy, hard series with emotions at a boil

Anyone here making the trip to Michigan for the series on Valentine's weekend?

First full game I’ve watched all year and that was really fun. Gophs can really defend. Impressed by the forwards’ efforts defending especially.

"Prior to this weekend, Michigan was last shut out in back-to-back games by Illinois on March 4-6, 1943 in Ann Arbor."

Wow.

By Illinois? I'll be honest... I didn't know Illinois ever had a hockey team. Wow.

Great wins this weekend.

I now hate Michigan more than Wisconsin, and even more than the SiouxHawks.

I never thought I would say this...

I think Michigan is a bigger rival than the badgers for the first time in 100+ years of Gopher hockey.
Conference rivals and points matter, at least in my opinion. I get more satisfaction from beating Michigan than the F'nHawks now.

Here's how your potentially number 1 Gophers will line up in their new grey jerseys Friday. Wow.

Ziemer-Clark-Snuggerud
Kurth-Moore-Lamb
Hendrickson-Mittelstadt-Michel
Begley

Koster-Rinzel
Mittelstadt-Gruba
Whipple-Chesley
Rud

Wow. How many times did I say 14 forwards including Michel was going to be a problem.

Goalies will get a great test and the crowd should be solid.

Is there a clear number one goalie?

No, but he favors Airey
Someone theorized this on GPL and it kind of makes sense to me. With Souliere, you kind of know what you have by now, whereas Airey still needs to grow and develop, so during the regular season Bob will default to giving Airey more starts and see if he can surpass what we already know we have with Souliere.

I think Souliere has for the most part been better this year, although I can only hope this past weekend is a preview of things to come for both of them.

Souliere is a "rental", while Airey has two more years. So that's why he favors Airey especially since he doesn't have a goalie to compete with Airey lined up yet for next year...

For everyone who ripped barto, he’s actually been quite good with lindenwood this year

.914 save percentage is nothing too special. Not the true #1 goalie the Gophers need to find in the future like a Slukynsky, Fowler, Augustine.

Not disagreeing. But at a place like lindenwood I wouldn’t get married to the Sv%, he’s been solid every time I’ve seen him play not that I’m advocating for bringing him back

Yup, just waiting for the USA Hockey poll but we'll be number 1 there too. kinda hoping MSU stays #2 for the 1 vs. 2 matchup but they'll likely be #3 in that one, too.

It's too bad we are going to be playing this series with about half our squad.
So who is out besides Huglen? I am guessing Faloon and Nevers.

Man did Hendrickson look good this weekend.

Anyone else notice that we are #1 in the poll this week?
I saw that. Don’t know if I like being #1 right before playing Michigan State. Would rather see them come to town ranked #1 and then we sweep them to become #1.

Doesn't really matter. Gophers are underdogs in both games, so any tie or win is a positive surprise. They don't need to be #1 at the new year. They need to be #1 in the last poll in April.

Hallum and Duke should both be out of this fucking game
Hallam cross checks a Gopher in the neck. Then twice on the ice.
Never underestimate how horseshit officiating can be on any given night.

And across those two and Werner, only one game of suspension. Absolute joke.

Thomas might still be out then. I can't remember a season with as grave an injury situation.
