I hope this thread becomes a silly afterthought as the season wears on due to their continued improvement. But for now, this team is statistically one of worst at free throws in the entire country. Bad enough, IMO, to warrant tracking it to see if we can avoid living in the cellar of this statistical category.

Entering play on 11/28, the Gophers were sitting at 351 out of 352 in the country. Their 7/14 performance on Monday lowered their team FT% to 54.48%. However, McNeese had an absolutely putrid performance of 8/27 at the line, and stole spot 351 from the Gophers. So even though the Gophers lowered their team FT% on Monday, they moved up a spot to 350/352.

The weird part is that they're trending worse, not better. Just when you think it can't get worse...

DeAndre Jordan would just talk to one of his teammates in the post, that would distract his mind and make the whole process seem more natural. Raised his free throw shooting from 45.5% to 75.8%

A study conducted by Dr. Biasiotto (spelling corrected 8/4/14) at the University of Chicago was done where he split people into three groups and tested each group on how many free throws they could make.

After this, he had the first group practice free throws every day for an hour.

The second group just visualized themselves making free throws.

The third group did nothing.
After 30 days, he tested them again.

The first group improved by 24%.

The second group improved by 23% without touching a basketball!!!!

The third group did not improve which was expected.

Teams are already deploying their "hack a Gopher" strategy to victory! 😏

Sports psychologist. Even old school Tubby Smith brought one in.

So if we practiced and visualized we can improve by 47%! Problem solved - what’s Ben’s cell number?

That’s the way I see it too. And if we hired Rick Berry to provide instruction on underhanding the free throws we would improve even more! 💁‍♂️

A 5/8 effort against Purdue raised their team FT%. However, they have dropped to 351/352 in overall FT%. Poor McNeese.

A putrid 4/11 performance can’t hold this team down. Due to a couple good FT performances in a row prior to the CSU game, they’ve climbed the charts all the way to spot 349 out of 352. Poor McNeese still sits in the cellar 2.5% lower than the Gophers.

Gophers still sitting at 350/352, but the formerly down-and-out McNeese is making a move from the cellar to now above the Gophers.

If the Gophers were to go 0/2 on their next two free throw attempts, they would officially be in last place. The race is heating up!

After their 9/16 performance against tOSU, the Gophers have dropped to 351/352, 0.16% higher than the nerds at Brown.

This is so hard to understand! I hope the team is addressing it.
