2020 College Transfer Portal

Michigan WR Tarik Black enters portal.

Highly recruited, looks to have all of the tools. I wonder what’s up?

He started his career hot but broke BOTH feet. Michigan has some guys who may leave for the NFL ... Michigan fans think this guy transferring means not everyone is going to the NFL and Tarik wants a fresh start.

Maybe, but at best he was probably looking at being the #4 guy and that assumes he isn't passed by any of the redshirts or true freshmen. If he wants to see the field a lot then dropping down to another school makes a lot of sense.

Would think he would have a pretty good read about where he was going to fit into the mix next season. Clearly he feels exploring his options is the best way to go.

Also, just entering the portal doesn't mean he is for sure gone. He could still end up staying if he doesn't find a fit to his liking somewhere else.

I'm guessing that we don't have to honor a scholly if someone enters the portal. If so, putting your name into the transfer list is a one-way ticket out of the program. I can't imagine PJ setting a precedence that it's fine to test the waters and if it doesn't work out, you're welcome to come back.

Nate Umlor to Grand Valley State. I wish him well.

Kiondre Thomas entered the portal per Burns. He’s eligible to grad transfer.

I didn't see it posted elsewhere -- Van Dyne to Indiana State and C.J. Smith to Campbell

Both are FCS schools, so no year of sitting out.

Agreed, but also frees up another spot.

Ive lost track of the magic number now, but might be 4.
Would it be up to 6 because we were counting Udoibok and Cooper but not Santaga and Ruschmeyer --- or maybe the scholarships for those two are only for spring semester until the '20 recruits are on campus

We stand a good chance of remaining one of the youngest teams in America with all of those transfers plus the large incoming class and graduating Seniors.

Most likely 100% of all the transfers out of MN will find a landing place. PJ Fleck will see to that. I thought I read someplace that he said he will help those who want to transfer out find a landing place. MN is staying classy.

Four years ago, if the Gophers lost players like Ahanotu and N-Okonji with 0.85 ratings thru transfers people will be up in arms. The competition must be really intense at certain positions.

One thing that is exciting - we are seeing more speed in the lineup.

Definitely looks like most guys transferring out are transferring down, which hopefully means that the transfers aren't for character issues/internal team issues, but simply looking for playing time. Can't fault any of them for that, hope that they all are successful at their next stop.

ATTENTION JAY SAWVEL: Now that you are Wyoming's DC, Kiondre Thomas is available.

Way too good. I am on a no beer & booze diet ??

My doc is trying to kill me.

And Klieman connection. Could be a good move. Power 5 exposure would help his draft stock if he's the real deal.

Wish the Gophers would get Jabril Cox. He's very, very good.

K-State, like Minnesota, does not appear to have any slots left in its 25 max new initial counters.

He'd have to be a walk-on. Unless someone can show me the rule, or a rule change, saying that grad transfers don't count against the 25. But pretty sure they do.

On the other hand, Missouri (SEC) looks to have lots of room, only have maybe 17 or 18 new initial counters so far for 2020: https://247sports.com/college/missouri/Season/2020-Football/Commits/

Only thing I have to counter your point is that Fleck seemed to say in his Spring Presser yesterday that "we have room for a grad transfer, but they have to be the right fit." That and in the Spielman thread, people seem to be pretty certain that we can take one if we want.

As long as he doesn’t end up at Nebraska, Wisconsin or Iowa.
