Many of the kids that we usually lose to FCS programs like NDSU choose to walk-on at the U. We may have the next Blake Cashman or Sam Renner in the pipeline. The nice thing if they can afford to walk-on is that they are not under the spotlight and don't have the heavy pressure/expectations that a scholarship player has. Through hard work, they can focus, earn valuable playing time, and even earn a scholarship. This is good for team depth.

I am glad that PJ Fleck awards scholies on a regular basis.

PJ and the U have really benefited from the PWO’s. It is great to see so many very good local football players get a chance to live their dream to play for the U! The success of so many PWO’s and the way that PJ has rewarded them adds legitimacy to the whole concept. This has got to hurt the next level programs (NDSU, etc) that were counting on these type of players to be the backbone of their programs.

From what I understand, PWO commitments are not binding. A kid can change his mind anytime if he gets an offer for a scholarship elsewhere.

I think Graetz is the best player/prospect among that group but he'll also have the toughest time seeing the field because of the position he plays.

The two WR's Buck and Wright are both pretty good too I think.

The punter Foley I would say probably has the best chance of seeing the field in his career because we don't give scholarships to HS punters so he is essentially the equivalent to a scholarship recruit at that position.

Pure speculation - I think the non-commits LeCaptain and Winfield, and them Gopher commit Graetz are most likely the three that we may not see with the Gophers.

I like Winfield just because of his pedigree. I think he will be really motivated to prove that he should have gotten other offers, he will have his brother and father to coach him as well. Safety is also a position where I don't see a sure fire starter who is gonna lock down all the playing time.

Many of these kids will be solid contributors I believe. No particular reason other than I think they won't be afraid to put in the work above and beyond what is expected of them. It seems to be a part of PJ's plan to lock down the borders.

As we reported on January 16th, UND QB recruit Logan Graetz is scheduled to visit campus this weekend. Bubba Schweigert and Danny Freund have been hard after the River Falls, WI native for the last month or so. We now believe within the last week, NDSU has circled back again on Graetz, who initially committed to the Bison as a preferred walk-on. We’re hearing NDSU will be home visiting Graetz later this week and making a scholarship offer.

Apparently NDSU just offered Graetz last night and they are asking him to keep quiet about it.

Keep it quiet? Huh? As soon as kid commits or changes commitment, they’ll tweet it out. Silly suggestion, why would they suggest any such thing?

Wisconsin QB Graetz recommits to NDSU after 'eventful' last couple of months

He had committed to coming to Fargo as part of the Class of 2019.

Then the River Falls, Wisconsin quarterback heard from the University of Minnesota. PJ Fleck wanted Graetz to come to Minneapolis as a preferred walk-on. Graetz then decided to de-commit from NDSU and head to Minnesota and play in the Big Ten.

Little did Graetz know, that was just the beginning of his recruiting odyssey. Even though he had already committed, schools were still talking to Graetz.

"Both schools were offering a preferred walk-on spot, who wouldn't choose an FBS school so close to home, but once NDSU came back into the picture with a scholarship, that kind of changed my mind on Minnesota and the offer from UND, that's when things heated up for me. " Graetz said.

The University of North Dakota was in need of a quarterback for its recruiting class after losing a commit to Texas State. They officially offered Graetz on January 16th.

Now, we will wait to see what Caledonia RB/OLB Nick McCabe will do after his NDSU visit.

Can't blame ant kid for deciding what's best for him and his family. I don'r know his family's financial circumstances are, but I think this weighs heavily on a lot of families today.
