I think he has a shot to do well with UNLV. I sure hope so. He has some major advantages over previous coaches; playing in the new Raiders stadium instead of way out at Sam Boyd and the new football complex. And with the Raiders coming, maybe football in this town increases a little bit more and people want to go to the Rebel games more.
I think their attendance is going to go way, WAY up starting next year, with both more visiting fans wanting to see the Raiders stadium and more Vegas fans wanting to check out the Rebels and the new stadium. For a LOT of people, unfortunately, their best chance at seeing the new stadium will be Rebel football games; the Raiders games are going to be really costly for the average fan.
I'm no expert but I think the Rebels playing their games way out at Sam Boyd was just a massive, massive obstacle to building a program at UNLV. The stadium is barely 10 minutes from my house and I went to ONE UNLV home football game there since I've been here. It's just a complete dump, along with the terrible logistics of attending games, most notably parking.
Good luck to Coach Arroyo!!
