Two new coaches in the division, grumblings in Iowa, but to big of a buy out.. Gophers will no doubt be preseason favorite to win division. Will it turn out to be like the SEC east or does MN have a 7-1, 8-0 season in them?

Kill has already been quoted that the defense will be better next year and he is really excited for the red shirts on offense.

I really want this bowl win to get/keep the momentum going.

Let's just focus on winning the first game of 2015, and then talk about the rest.

Yes, fans are not allowed to look ahead and think of what might be.

Pretty much what I said. A bowl win will get it going.

I predict most national prognosticators pick the Gophers no better than third in the division next year. Most are lazy and simply select the teams that have won in the past.

hopefully our bowl game will change our national perception a little bit. If we can win big against an SEC team it will go a long ways.

IF we beat Mizzou, Maxx comes back and Jeff Jones is eligible then we should be divisional favorites regardless of how Wisconsin and Nebraska do in their bowl games. If we lose the bowl game and either Maxx or Jeff Jones or both don't play for us next year and Either Wisconsin or Nebraska win their bowl game than whichever team that won their bowl game will probably be the favorite next year. There is so much at stake for us in this bowl game. I would also like to think that a Citrus Bowl win might make it more likely that Maxx would stay.

Obviously there is excitement around the skill players coming in on offense, but until I see some results on the field from Jeff Jones, Gentry, and Holland I have trouble deeming us the West Division favorites.

According to Saturday Down South's way-too-early 2015 picks, the Gophers should be no higher than fourth in the Big Ten West, behind three SEC teams.

All I know for the 2015 season is I already have 9 days off in September to head out to Colorado for a game

There's no way we're the preseason favorites in the BIG West in 2015.
It's the Gophers or Wisconsin. And right now, they have more questions than MN. The if the Gophs beat Mizzou and Wiscy gets smoked by Auburn (which I think is very likely at this point), I don't see why Wiscy would be favored.

I think we are set up nicely for the conference next year (although we will still have a much tougher schedule than wisc or iowa). But I'm already not looking forward to possibly starting out 0-2. I mean TCU will probably be top 5 or 6 and CSU on the road is no picnic...at least they lost their coach.

They also lose their QB who passed for over 3,770 yards with 32 TDs and 6 INTs and a 1,200 yard rusher.

Shame on me too!

Going in to 2014, I was looking at 2015 as our year to be able to compete for a title on the last Saturday in November. Then 2014 happened.

Who knows. I never count out Iowa and the newbie at NU could put it all together. Wisky will be a very tough game. Plus we do lose quality & experienced Sr.s (Cobb, Wilson, Epping, Tommy, Cam) and their replacements could not be as good.

There is reason for optimism.

TCU is going to be a very tough game. If we are improved, we should have no problem with CSU minus their coach and all of their offensive production next year.

Regardless of everything else, we are going to struggle to get much better than we are now until we can figure out how to pass.

From Grantland's discussion on Anderson leaving Wisconsin:

http://grantland.com/the-triangle/college-football-lightning-round-gary-andersen-wisconsin-oregon-state/

Michael Weinreb: So, to summarize, the Big Ten West is composed of:

1. A coach (Tim Beckman) who believes his team was only 10 plays short of defeating Purdue.

2. A coach (Kirk Ferentz) who made approximately $582,142.86 per victory this season.

3. A coach (Pat Fitzgerald) who referred to his own team as “an embarrassment.”

4. A coach (Darrell Hazell) whose team lost by three touchdowns to Central Michigan.

5. A coach (Mike Riley) who is, you know, like, a really great guy.

6. A program bereft of a coach for the second time in three years …

… and Minnesota. Which means a team that hasn’t qualified for the Rose Bowl since the Cuban Missile Crisis is now the most stable and promising program in this whole confab of misfit toys.

TCU is going to be a very tough game. If we are improved, we should have no problem with CSU minus their coach and all of their offensive production next year.

Rashard Higgins is a sophomore. 1640 reception yards and 17 tds. 2nd only to Amari Cooper in yards and Higgins leads all wrs in tds.

I don't know if we'll be the favorite but I definitely think an argument can be made that we're the best team. WI was all D and Gordon this year. Gordon is gone and they lost their D minded HC. Nebby loses its 2 best offensive players and is left with a mediocre QB and a decent but not great D. That said our offense was all about Cobb and we lose him. As fans we're excited about our OL and Jones and our RS WRs but from an outsiders perspective that doesn't mean much and I'm sure those teams have players they're excited about as well. The tangible things we can lean on are that Cobb is really the only impact skill guy we lose, our OL should continue to get better and our D returns maybe the best secondary in the conference as we return 4 guys that played a ton with 2 all conference corners as well as our entire front 7 2 deep sans Wilson and Botti
