Cobb measured 5-11, 229 today, exact same as what he measured at the senior bowl. Arm length and hand size don't really matter for RBs. Also Maxx measured in at 6-4, not 6-5.

I'd be very surprised. He may have a chance to be a more productive player than Cobb but if I were handicapping them I'd definitely have him ranked 3rd of the 3 at the combine. Not saying he won't have a pro career but Williams is a freak and Cobb is a workhorse that is an excellent blocker.

He is only 20 years old but Ra'Shede did 32, Vereen did 27, Martez Shabazz did 29 at his pro day and Nick Connelly did 13 at camp last summer according to Billy Glasscock. Not surprising though as he says strength is his greatest weakness.
 


If I'm a OC / Head coach / GM, I look at some of those UNBELIEVABLE catches and bet the farm on the kid. He will be the next Gronk. It is the way the position is trending.
 


Sorry if this isn't the right place but was anyone else surprised that Cedric Thompson didn't get a combine invite? Good numbers and size and the third fastest guy on the team according to Duke's Twitter leak.

This isn't directly related to your post but can anyone tell me about how many players (if any) get drafted but don't get invited to the combine?
 

His agility at 6'5" and 250 is amazing. Plays like a skilled WR at TE

On a rough average there is 35-50 guys drafted a year that dont receive combine invites out of 256 draft spots. Usually about 300 players invited to the combine.

David Cobb doesn't even have to look outside of the Big Ten to find a group of running backs who are considered better draft prospects than him. That's perfectly fine with the 21-year-old University of Minnesota star. In fact, it fuels Cobb as he continues to prepare for the NFL.

With the likes of Wisconsin's Melvin Gordon, Nebraska's Ameer Abdullah and Indiana's Tevin Coleman alongside him throughout this process, Cobb will likely find himself as the fourth Big Ten running back selected.

"You can't relax, you can't take a week off because you have four or three other guys in the Big Ten just as good as you are or better," Cobb said Thursday at the Scouting Combine. "So it definitely was a great feeling to compete every week and actually get a chance to play those guys."

I am sure I have strong Maroon & Gold blinders on, but I honestly think Cobb will be a much more productive pro than Ameer Abdullah.

In another year, perhaps Minnesota’s David Cobb would be in contention to be one of the first few running backs selected in the NFL draft. But in a deep 2015 class, the bruising Gophers back might not even be one of the first few Big Ten running backs off the board.

Wisconsin’s Melvin Gordon could become the first running back to be selected in the first round in three years. Nebraska’s Ameer Abdullah and Indiana’s Tevin Coleman are regarded as second-day picks, and Michigan State’s Jeremy Langford could go in that range, as well. Draft analysts have Cobb pegged as a mid-to-late-round pick, but a strong showing in spandex could boost his stock.

Anyway, Cobb was asked yesterday if he felt overshadowed by Gordon and those other guys.

“[I wouldn’t say] overshadowed because those guys deserved as much exposure as they got. It definitely was great to see that competition,” Cobb said. “You can’t relax. You can’t take a week off because you have four or three other guys in the Big Ten just as good as you are or better, so it definitely was a great feeling to compete every week and actually get a chance to play those guys.”

1500: Running back class aims to flip script, recapture first-round value

Since Adrian Peterson and Marshawn Lynch were drafted four picks apart in 2007, first-round running backs have disappointed and been outperformed by their later-round cohorts.

Five rushers were selected before 2011 third-round pick DeMarco Murray, who led the league with 1,845 yards last season; three backs got picked before 2009 second-rounder LeSean McCoy, the 2013 rushing champion. The previous back-to-back drafts without first-round backs was unprecedented and helped set up by the 2012 crop that produced Trent Richardson, Doug Martin and David Wilson; Wilson retired due to injuries and the other two barely combined for 1,000 yards last season.

This year's group say they're the ones to change the NFL tide, which continues to push away from using top picks on the backfield.

"I think you want to be part of a class like this," ex-Gophers running back David Cobb said. "There's so much great talent -- seniors, juniors, everyone's coming out and it's one of those things when you're in a group of guys and you see those big names you want to stick your chest out a little bit and you just want to compete. That's what I'm here to do."

Thompson still has the Gophers pro day to make an impression on scouts

Thompson has a chance to get some consideration if he has a good pro day workout at the Gophers NFL pro day.
He plays safety and the NFL is always looking for Safety's that can tackle, can run well and can play special teams.
If he can show that he is a good cover guy on special teams I wouldn't put it past Thompson to overcome and make a pro roster. He can make some pretty good money if he can prove that he is a valuable special teams player on the kick coverage units.

University of Minnesota tight end Maxx Williams was only 5 years old when his father wrapped up his 11-year NFL career with the New York Giants, but he still remembers that time well.

“It was a great experience having my dad play in the NFL and growing up around that kind of atmosphere, being in the locker room and seeing what the game is all about, actual inside the NFL, what football truly is,” Williams said at the combine. “(My favorite part was) hot-tubbing with my dad after games. He'd go in the cold tub and he'd have a little swimsuit, so I could go in the hot tub.”

Some 15 years later, Williams is trying to follow in his father’s footsteps as a first-round NFL draft pick and join some elite company at the same time.

According to research done by draft analyst Dane Brugler, Brian and Maxx Williams could join Archie and Eli Manning (Mississippi) and Clay Matthews and Clay Matthews Jr. (USC) as the only father-son combinations from the same school to become first-round picks.

Maxx Williams isn’t likely to be selected as early as his father, who was taken 18th overall in the 1989 draft, but he’s considered perhaps the top tight end available in the 2015 draft and a definite first-round candidate.

“I think just the fact you're going in the first round is a great honor,” Maxx said. “I mean, not many people can say they're first round. Not many people can say they went in the first round and so did their father, so having an opportunity to go in the first round, it would be a moment I would remember for the rest of my life.”

1500: Former Gophers tight end Maxx Williams out to impress NFL teams Friday

There's interest in tight end Maxx Williams.

At least 21 NFL teams have scheduled interviews with the former Gophers standout. And it doesn't sound like he's lacking for confidence.

A reporter apparently asked Williams which NFL tight end he'd like to model his game after.

"Jason Witten. He's a complete tight end in my opinion. He blocks. He runs routes. He makes plays for his team. That's what I want to be," Williams said. "I want to go to the NFL and be a complete tight end and make plays with my hands but also in the run game by making complete blocks."

"I'd like to say I'm one of the tight ends here and I hope this week helps me show that I do have the talent to be considered that," Williams said.

They seem to be talking this tight end class down a bit - saying Maxx might be best of bunch but 2nd round.

Kid would have ran faster if they had put a couple of hurdles out there.
 

TE's running routes right now. Coach wants them to tap there feet before going out of bounds. Says something to the effect "tap them like a typewriter. Not that you all know what the hell that is."

Priceless.
