Anyone with some info if the Gophers are recruiting the Chambers kid from Hopkins? I see they are after Paige from Iowa but that doesnt seem too likely with all the big names after him. What other in-state juniors is the team looking at?

at the moment the Gophers are not actively recruiting Syani. much like 2011, 2012 is filled with good prospects but no sure things, Zierdon, Joey King, Kyle Washington, Marcus Marshall, to name a few top kids are all probably D1 kids but all have major question marks. That could obviously change in the next 12 months, but at the moment it is possible we may have another recruiting class with no MN kids.

2007, 2009, and 2011 classes had MN players.

2008 and 2010 did not. If the pattern holds, 2012 won't.

Gophers will have 4 or 5 recruits in 2012 class, I think.

Isaiah Zierdon is the one I fear that could come back and bite us if we let him leave or get on him too late, especially if ends us at another conference school. Coaches kid, could become the new Jon Leuer.

Does the staff think he's extremely overrated? The scouts seem to love him so far. I'm surprised we wouldn't at least be recruiting him lightly, especially considering that's going to be a big class. Do they not think he has a very high ceiling?

How has Jon Leuer hurt us? 0-3 against us his last three games and his freshman year was not much of a factor. Who would you suggest he have a scholarship over right now Mbakwe, Iverson or Sampson? He's more of a Kyle Singler who like to play and shoot outside not that it's a bad thing but he is good for Wisconsin's system.

We've been able to beat Sconny head to head but he would have obviously helped us.

I'd definitely take Leuer over Sampson or Iverson. I'm not knocking those guys, but Leuer puts up pretty impressive numbers.

Jon Leuer has a good chance to Big 10 POY and will almost for sure be 1st Team, I would take him over almost every player on our team (possible exception being Mbakwe).

His size and outside shooting ability are the knocks. Still has time to work on his shot but his size, that'll be an issue. He's about 5'9" and 145 lbs? The gophers are recruiting him a bit but safe to say he's not plan b,c,d etc.

He would be good for any "system" in college basketball. He is one of the top players in the country. Leuer is 6'10, has a high basketball IQ, and shot 52 percent from the field last year, whats not to like? The scary part is he is still not even close to his full potential. I hope your not suggesting that you wouldn't take Leuer on this Gopher team. The Gophers would be extremely happy to have him, or JT on the team.

As for Chambers, I have been pretty high on him. I think he is a very good defender, fantastic passer, attacks the defense, knocks down FT's. He has a very high basketball IQ. The knock on him, as Jonny mentioned, has been outside shooting and size. This will be a huge year for him to show his shooting ability that I think is there. If he gets a little bigger (espn lists him as 5'11, 170 pounds) he would be a solid get.

I'd take Leuer over all three. Hands down.

Leur can shoot from the outside or post up and create his own shot inside. Just think how good the Gophers would be with him to complement the existing players. His ability to create his own shot is the one thing the Gophers lack.

Johnny

Are the Gophers looking at Sanjay Lumpkin at all?

I would take Jon Leuer on this Gopher team in a heartbeat. Not many big guys that size have his skill set. I'll be glad when he's done at Wisconsin because then I'll officially consider the damage from the Monson era over.

Over anyof those 3 players. he is a all american level player. None of the 3 on the gophers are near that level. Not saying they are not good players, all three are and Trevor could be dominant, but as of now it is no contest.

Thanks for the info. I assume that if he doesn't get much bigger his rankings will drop pretty fast if he doesn't have much of a shot to make up for his size.

If he can work on his shot the size MIGHT not be as big of an issue. He's a leader and creator who plays good defense. However, I watched Wisky and ND last night and Jordan Taylor posted up Freshmen guard Aaron Anderson (same size as Chambers) with relative ease. So I'd be concerned about other good sized guards doing the same and making him a liability on the defensive end.

Size is definately an issue with Chambers and I think they just want to see him be more of a leader. As long as coach Taylor is here, MN will always have a pretty good chance to get in with Syani if they choose to. I think there is still time for all these kids in the 12 class to impress Tubby and co. and I'm sure they will be watching alot of local ball this year to see who may have grown or improved. As we've seen in the past with suprise, out of nowhere offers to Dower and Moats, these things can change in a hurry.

As for Lumpkin, he has a big advocate in Peterson who is tring hard to get Sanjay's name out there and would love to see him at the U. He's another potential kid who will have to take that jump to the next level to get serious consideration. He will definately get the chance to impress college coaches(including MN) since his BSM team will have three D1 kids with him in Washington and Zierdon.
