Staten, a 6-foot-1 blur who has narrowed his college choices to Iowa State, Florida and Minnesota, scored 21 points and was named captain of the all-tournament team. It was quite a turnaround for a player who was criticized by some when he transferred from Sioux City West after a 4-17 season.

June, 2010: Staten is a versatile athlete; he is at his best when he has the ball in his hands and is attacking the basket. Wesley loves to take a defensive rebound and start a fast break and go coast to coast with the ball. Wesley's long arms, quick first step and bounce off the floor allow him to finish in the lane over bigger defenders at various angles. On drives, Wesley has good body control and can do a variety of dribble moves at full speed to get past his defender. Wesley's jump shot is a little streaky, but he gets good elevation and rotation. However, his release point changes at times, which makes his shot inconsistent from 17 feet and out. Defensively, Wesley could be a lock down defender because of his lateral quickness, good hands and anticipation on defense. Wesley is going to have to keep improving his passing skills on the move, develop a consistent three point jump shot, and give strength to his wiry frame to become a more efficient scorer.

Committed to Iowa State before the start of his freshman season (2008-09)...Decommitted from Iowa State prior to his sophomore season...Recommitted to Iowa State in Oct. 09 but commitment is "soft"...Decommitted again from Iowa State in May 2010...

Hmm- a point guard that can't make a decision. He's certainly good at the head fake- he's in, he's out, he's back in and now he's back out.........but wait Iowa State is still in his top 3.

Odd Trio

Iowa State, Minnesota, and Florida seems like an odd group.

Does he have an offer in hand from Florida and the U?

Has MN even offered him yet? When is he going to decide?

Regardless, he would be a great start to the 2012 class.

A kid goes back and forth on something when he's 14-17. You're such a jerk with your comments towards these kids. At least this guy is good enough to not be a part of your "junkyard" like the last youngman, who plays PG, that was posted about on here.

I think this is a little extraordinary. If you don't - then fine- that's you. As far as the junkyard comment it was not a direct knock on the kid it was a knock on our recruiting issues. The junkyard has nothing to do with the kid - it has everything to do with the likelihood of striking gold. When you go out looking for what is left over in the Spring what you find is not likely to be sure things. That being said anyone who has read my posts also knows I'm a big fan of Chip Armelin who I would say was a junk yard find but also a diamond in the rough and a very good Spring discovery.

Iowa State could be pretty good in a few years. Haven't heard much from Royce in the news. Must be behaving. Wonder if Hoiberg will put up with the on and off recruitment of this kid?

Shhhhhh XMan- after all the kid is somewhere between 14 and 17- kids that age are indecisive. I'm sure Fred is happy with him. :)

His indecision regarding Iowa State makes a lot of sense considering the instability of that program recently.

Agreed. It seems like every week rumors flare up that someone is transferring to Iowa State, so I'm sure he doesn't want to sign there if a PG from another program (i.e. Lucious) is going to transfer in.

I'm guessing he committed to the coach before Hoiberg, that coach gets fired, he decommits, commits to Hoiberg, Hoiberg decides he'd rather have kids kicked off Big Ten ten teams, and decommits again.

Add his age as a factor and it's very explainable.

If the staff is avoiding potential character issues, this guy seems to have some red flags on top of his commitment and decommitments.

So what is Tubby's interest?

Not that this is security guard, shoplifting news, but i heard that Royce is a daddy now.
