2010 Depth Chart

According to his rivals profile, Gjere is 6-7 275. As a tackle I don't think 275 is an effective weight to play at. If over the summer Gjere can get to 290-295 and looks like he has the strength in the weight room to be effective, I could see him getting a chance at the tackle position, depending on if the returning guys play as poorly as they played at times last season.

As for the posters listing a few freshman who started on the line at the U or other schools, you're listing the exceptions, not the rule. Maybe Gjere will be that special that he will get the chance, but I'd say its a long shot he starts in the first half of the season.

I believe Gjere currently weighs 310 not 275. The 275 was his weight when he committed in March of 2009. I would guess a red-shirt year with time in the weight room and training table will get Gjere ready to compete for playing time like all the other linemen-recruits.

This season's recruits have great size compared with previous classes where players needed to put on 30-40 lbs before they were ready to get on the field.

QB-Gray, Weber
I really do think Gray will be the starter, especially if Horton can use him running more. Weber will play a bit, maybe switching roles with Gray this year, a few plays with 2 QB's here and there to mix it up.

HB-Eskridge, Bennett, Wright
Anyone notice a different Eskridge against ISU? If he can put on some more strength and continue to improve his reads, he'll play. Bennett has nice hands and is smart, he'll get a few carries, maybe going to way of Jay Thomas on special teams. Devon Wright is the obvious choice for a newcomer impact runningback. He'll fill Whaley's role early and maybe be the starter late like Whaley was.
Kirkwood is pretty small, I saw him when he visited this year, 5'8 maybe, but thick, I suspect he RS's. Edwards needs a year to find a position and develop technique, great prospect though.

WR-Green, Mcknight
SlotWR-Stoudemire, Allen
Mcknight seems to have figured it out, he'll be a nice big target now with playing experience. Green will be a good #2 and a nice route running type of guy. I really hope we see more reverses and runs from Stoudemire, he is that X factor type of guy. Slot quick screens, motion flips, etc.
Watch for impact from Allen and Keise, maybe Hill, all have tons of talent, they'll get mixed in more and more. Allen can really fly, I see him running more punts back this year, his return against Iowa was really impressive.

TE-Lair, Eure, McGarry, Hughes
Lair is going to need to improve to get the start, I haven't seen tape on Eure since HS, but he looked to be a nice blocker with good size. McGarry and Hughes will continue to play blocking roles and play special teams. It would be nice to have a standout by summer in this group.

LT-Alford/SH
LG-Olson/Bunders/Burris
C-Burris/Davis/Wynn
RG-Carufel/Orton
RT-Wills/Michel
We could use some help at LT, anyone know any local recruits that could help?
Alford/Wills seemed to have some ok pass blocking games, run blocking needs to drastically improve to make this O click. Bunders was over matched often, I see Olson competing here, Burris could step in too, but I think he gets the start at C
Carufel wasn't nearly as dominant as I thought he'd be, hopefully he hasn't maxed out on his potential. Michel will be a nice backup, I'll predict he'll start the next 3 years beyond.

DE-Hageman, Jacobs/KGM
DT-Kirksey, Legania
DT-Edwards, Jacques
DE-Wilhite/Jacobs, Garin
Finally some serious athletes on our Dline! I think Wilhite gets the start along with the DT's.
Hageman and Jacobs will battle, Jacobs had some good moments and some awful ones. He was worked against wisky, hope he learned something. Garin has even a better first step than Wilhite, I expect him to play 3rd downs and contribute as a pass rusher. KGM, Jacques, and Legania play backup roles, KGM may be in the mix with Hageman and Jacobs as well.
Tauaefa might RS and develop into a DT, Ferguson has the size to play at Edward's spot, does he have the strength?
OLB-Cooper, Singleton
MLB-Tinsley, Maresh
OLB-Rallis/Reeves
Speed and athleticism abound here, can the kids hold up strength and savvywise? Rallis to LB makes sense unless Thornton is going to play LB. Maresh supposedly impressed late last year in practice. Tinsley and Cooper will be real fun to watch.
CB-Collado, K. Lewis, Bouie
S-Theret, Thornton
S-Royston, Collado
CB-Carter, C. Lewis

A mix of JUCOs, newbies, and veterans. Collado has battled and overcome alot, he looked good late and will play the slot when he can, but it's always nice to have a big hitter at CB.
Look for C. Lewis and K. Lewis to play backup roles and nickel/dime. Bouie too maybe.
Thornton to me is our answer to wisky and iowa's ground games. Expect a special package for power running teams to include a kamakaze Thornton smacking pulling guards and fullbacks allowing the LB to clean it up. Theret did just that against wisky and was swallowed too often.

P-Oreske
K-Ellestad
KR-Stoudemire
PR-Allen
It's really nice to have solid special teams going into a season.
