Are we starting to get a feel for who might be walking on next year yet. I know Engel is being talked about. Anyone else.

Related: We've got a couple of nice QB's in the area. The princeton kid, Mathieu from Mpls SW, and at least one more that I can't recall at this time.

The fastest kid in the state Chi Chi. I know his RB stats didn't pan out, and I'm guessing he's smallish, but that speed as a DB maybe?

Mathieu's WR Aaron (2010), 82 catches 3 picks on D. A solid WR for Duluth East (can't recall the name but is solid on D as well). The Powers kid out of Grand Rapids (2010).

I still think a good walk on program for the gophs would be huge as I think our preps are way under rated.

I've heard rumors about the following candidates as preferred walk on's:
Derek Engel - WR- Chaska
Cooper Wahlo, Jr. - WR - Woodbury
Cole Jirik -DE -Northfield (verbaled to NDSU)
Cory Frazier -CB -EP (verbaled to Rice, may be offered scholly by Minnesota)
Varmah Sonie - CB -Apple Valley (rumors that grades may not be up to par)
Anders Lee - QB -Edina (will probably play hockey if not offered a football scholarship)

I'm sure there are more candidates but these have been the most frequently discussed.

Rivals states that Frazier has an offer from MN, one of his seven. It could be incorrect.

Isn't Lee a lock to play hockey?

The Gophers started looking at him this fall when they weren't sure if Gray was going to become eligible. It was rumored that they would offer Lee if Gray failed to qualify and Lee was willing to accept a football scholarship. I think they still probably asked him to walk on but the word is that he would only choose football if there was a scholarship offered.

I'm not sure if that is totally accurate. I've heard they asked him to walk on or they offered him a grey shirt this year which would mean he would have to sit out this fall (can't practice with the team) and he would have a a scholarship in the spring of 2010.

Lee is going to notre dame to play hockey

He will be enrolling at Notre Dame in 2010. He will be playing juniors next year, so he may be weighing his options in the mean time. He has been all over the board in the last couple years and I don't fault him at all with the options he has. He was committed to play hockey for UMD about a year a half ago, then thought about committing to Harvard where he could play football as well.

Tough decision for an 18 year old, but I doubt he becomes a Gopher to play football.

Anders was told that if Gray did not make it back to MN, he would be offered that scholarship. Once Gray got his score, Anders was then told he could walk on which is something he would of considered but with Gray and Alipate coming in the same year and Weber having two years left, it was not an attractive option. Alot of the regional 1-AA schools wanted him but if he couldn't play football at MN, then he would rather do hockey, which he will for the Irish.

Engel's big concern with MN right now is how many WR's are we bringing in but on the flip side they like what Kuznia has done as a walk on and carpenter is a juco.

If I was a WR I wouldn't worry about numbers. You can either get open and catch the ball or you can't. As you mentioned, look at Kuznia. And Decker really, he has good measurables but they don't explain his success.

There are spots where you may never get your chance because of numbers I don't think WR's really should worry about that.
