1985 SI Article on Wacker/TCU cheating

Easy to root for

Wacker just never cut it at the U of M. I rooted for him to turn the corner, but it never happened and doubtful that it ever could have. I didn't know him personally, but rooted for him. I had similar feelings about Cal Stoll, even though I was a youth. On the other hand, when Mason and Brewster were terminated, I didn't have the same feelings. My thoughts were that they were paid for services rendered, and that's about it.
Early thoughts on Kill put him in the Wacker, Stoll category. Now, if he could just put the W's in the Warmath category.

That is great sportswriting. Too bad the Rick Reilly that wrote that column is long deceased and the hacky "I started playing fantasy football this year! Look, I even whine about it like the other 5 million who already play it" ESPN columnist is all we have left.

Too bad.

"His first big job came at a Portland, Ore. high school, where he had the idea of using two quarterbacks at once. Each quarterback would put his hands under center, and it was up to the defense to guess which one came away with the ball. This worked quite well until Wacker discovered it was illegal."

Awesome.
