There are also a few assistants in the ACC ( e.g. Duke) but would be concerned about them going back to ACC for a later opportunity.

Would prefer to see a black coach and I am guessing that is what will happen.
 

I don’t follow college basketball the way I did prior to kids, but who is the hot name here? Obviously I recognize a few of them, but couldn’t tell you what they are thought of.

JB Bickerstaff jumped out to me. NBA head coach, alum, young, but mostly because I recognize his name.
 

Be surprised if Sampson, Smart or any of the NBA guys are in the mix. Stoudamire’s HC record nothing to brag about. The other guys are interesting.

People with black skin have a wide variety of backgrounds, ethnicity, and heritage. Blacks don't consider themselves all the same anymore than whites do. For example, Both Gach and Marcus Carr both have black skin, but vastly different ethnicity and backgrounds.

We should probably flush out what our preferences and criteria before we make a list.

I'm with you there! The best coach since Jim Dutcher has been Clem Haskins. Tubby was ok until he got lazy. So maybe TABinMO likes the percentages.

All I know is, Shaka Smart isn't leaving Texas. JB Bickerstaff, while being a Gopher alum, has always been an NBA guy. Same with Sam Mitchell.

I do believe some of the other coaches listed know what they are doing and deserve a shot, Staley included. They don't need a connection to the University or Minnesota to succeed either. Clem didn't have one.

Let's get the best coach, who wants to be here. Regardless of race, sex or anything else.
 


Sam Mitchell would be some kind of "get". Sadly he is not walking through that door. Andre Hollins is on the staff right now. He could have a Pat Summit type career.

I'm not in favor of anyone who is on staff right now. Dre is a great guy and a Gopher legend but I don't think he is seasoned enough for the task.

There is a guy on the University payroll who would be interesting, knows how to shoot and would command immediate respect. Also, re-establish the long dormant Gopher Michigan recruiting pipeline possibly.

Not sure he is into coaching though. Has he ever talked about the coaching situation with the Gophers on KFAN?

Great thing about coaching in the Association, no recruiting of high schoolers or insane parents to deal with.

Interesting. I had to look it up, he is same age as Dutcher. If you need to fix shooting he is your guy.

Stephens is an interesting Name. He came up in our last search but hasn’t been in mix for any jobs in that time. He’s either very loyal to Izzo or ADs don’t consider him HC material.
