I forgot what team it was, but earlier in the season the Gophers played a team from a 1 bid league and the HC was quoted as saying, "our entire schedule and our entire program is designed to play well for 4 days in March."

It's a tough path as so much rides on a short window in March for 1 bid league teams. St. Thomas had a really nice year and certainly a lot to build on, but it's tough when NCAA Tournament is the goal as any team is a bad shooting night away from the dream ending.

Go Gophers!!

Yep, I really learned this weekend what it’s like to be a fan of a team that plays in a one bid conference. It’s a tough gig. I was really confident that Tommies would win it, but I also understood that what happened Saturday night was very possible. Their struggles at the free throw line for most of the season finally caught up to them. They really missed some key ones, some crucial front ends that they didn’t convert.

That one stung a lot. Did not get a great night sleep after that one.

same here. the free throw shooting all year was tough to watch because of how well they shot 3 pointers and how well they have shot free throws historically. A couple late game turnovers against UND in the regular season and tourney were not what I was used to seeing from St Thomas guards either. At first glance, the guards are young but not "freshman" young. Herro is in his 3rd year, Janowski his 2nd-- but that isn't like the 5th year seniors the last couple of years before this either.

If you had ultimate power in the Summit League would you change the Tournament format to the way the Patriot League does it (and several others) by spreading it out over 7-10 days with better Seed hosting?

To me it rewards the best teams as well as makes the Regular Season more interesting/intriguing.

Zero clue how the financials break down. For the sake of argument let's say both formats would be equal in terms of revenue and expenses.

100% would be a better experience for fans (at least fans of non-South Dakota teams), and like you said would make the regular season feel less pointless.

I don't know how much it is, but to my understanding, Sioux Falls pays the league to host, so I can't imagine the home sites would be more profitable for the league.

While losing the Sioux Falls funding/sponsorship, it would cut travel-lodging expenses though, perhaps close to half since Higher Seeds would get to stay Home.

No idea how close it would be in terms of revenue neutral.

I think it works well for smaller conferences out east like the Patriot & America East because the schools are much more in proximity to each other. A large majority of the schools are easy bus trips. Very few require a flight.

Summit covers a much larger area.
