Hickey: 1 B1G thought ahead of every Week 2 Big Ten game

Alex Hickey

Gotta keep my head on a swivel this week.
There was a nice dosage of conference games in a Week 1 that featured 3 Big Ten matchups. In Week 2, it’s 14 teams playing 14 games.
Many of these games will be duds — scheduled wins for teams looking to reach bowl eligibility at the end of the season. Excitement will be limited to families of third-stringers who will play in the fourth quarter.
But hidden between these duds are quite a few bangers. The excitement level should actually move up a notch in Week 2.

Eastern Michigan at Minnesota

When: Saturday, 7:30 p.m. ET, BTN

B1G thought: Chris Creighton has the most difficult job in the FBS — building a winner and fan interest just 8 miles from Michigan Stadium. In 2016 the program even contemplated moving down to the FCS until Creighton produced the program’s first winning season in 20 years. With the exception of 2017 and 2020, EMU has had a winning season every year since.

A MAC team has beaten a B1G opponent each year since 2006, including Bowling Green’s win at Minnesota in 2021. The Gophers will be tested.
