Rashad Vaughn ‏@ShowtimeMr 3m
Blessed to say my final 5: Kansas, UNLV, Kentucky, Iowa St, North Carolina #NoOrder

Kind of surprising we didn't make the final 5, but at least he didn't pull the Tyus BS and say we are in it until the end

well it is what it is, and this is a message board to discuss Gopher basketball related topics.

Thanks for coming!

We've discussed it ad nauseam for 3 years, including 3 threads of 100+ pages a piece. Do you really think we needed another thread? I think most people are ready to move on, not rub salt in old wounds.

Curious to know what Pitino thinks of this.

I know he really, really wanted Travis as it appeared that he was a 4 year player....Obviously he would have been estatic in the end to land Vaughn, but maybe the one and done thing is what made Pitino not lay it on as thick as he did for Travis

Do you not understand the thread title? There were plenty of Gopher fans that thought we had a chance with Rashad still (maybe you didn't, but some did), and it was not official until just now that we did go 0 for 3 on the big 3. Maybe you moved on, and "felt" we had no chance, but until today we weren't officially 0-3. We are now, so we can move forward discussing it (hence the purpose of a message board)

So don't you think this should be discussed in the Vaughn thread? I think it's pointless to create another thread. But you can do whatever you want, so have at it..

The concern is we have no sure thing impact underclassman in or signed with the team. This team is going to get worse before it gets better unless we hit on guys like Mason and Martin. Wally, Buggs and McNeil are more than a year away from significant contributions.

McNeil is already one of our first players off the bench. I'd say that is pretty impactful, especially for a freshman at this point in the season.

Really?? He has averaged 4 minutes in 5 games this season.

I'm not saying he won't be a contributor at some point, but he has not been an impact player.

He didn't play at all at the beginning of the season, but the last few he's been getting more playing time. He is already ahead of Mav in the rotation, which is a pretty major impact if you ask me :D. I don't worry about him like I do when Mav is in the game. I think we'll see him continue to contribute more and more as the season goes on. With Dre, Dre, Hollins, and Malik taking up most of the minutes at guard, he isn't going to be getting 20 min a game.

I don't know if that's a true statement.... Yet

Nor do i expect this to get worse before it gets better. Austin and Malik will be tough to replace but my expectation is that another year under Pitino will make up for the loss of two guys that can "shoulder the load".

Rich'is father and mentor made livings of making less recruited players be major contributors in a system, let's hope that McNeil, 'Dre and the incoming class can do that and perhaps Rich can salvage a few incumbents into role players. Let's not also remember that we very well could pick up a graduate transfer and or a JUCO that can play immediately, that's been the trend in college basketball for a couple years.

McNeil's minutes in the last 6 games, starting with most recent.
8, 2, 0, 0, 1, 0.

Hardly impactful.

Trending upward though. :D How do they compare to Buggs and Wally? :D

My guess is McNeil gets at least 10 minutes against A&M tomorrow.

I'm going to cringe if Kansas beats out Iowa State for Vaughn. That'd be torture.

Doesn't make your statement of him being one of the first off the bench any less untrue or premature. End the conversation.

On the other hand, if ISU loses out to KU for Vaughan, at least it'll take the rest of the universe a BIT longer to find out that ISU is a gangster program. I'm all about silver linings.

He's not ahead of Mav in the rotation. He's only played more minutes than Mav once. Against UNO Mav played 13 and McNeil played 2. McNeil did not play against Florida State, Mav played 10.

He could make big strides this year, but next year we'll need him. I'm just concerned he's not an impact type player.

That reminds me, now all of you ISU trolls can officially leave GH. Why don't you go troll the UNLV, Kansas, Kentucky, and UNC boards?

To be honest, this dude doesn't strike me as very trollish. On the other hand, I completely agree with you. Now is the time for Gopher Hole's vast contingent of ISU supporters to find other waters to swim in.

I know at least twice he's entered the game before Mav so that is why I said what I said. I hadn't compared their minutes. I think Pitino isn't a huge fan of Mav and is pretty much giving him the minutes he is because he is a senior. I am pretty confident in saying McNeil will surpass Mav in the rotation (officially) going forward.

Fair enough. You really can't compare until we have good competition. Uno and FSU were close games. That's why I mentioned those two.

If my memory still works I believe all 8 minutes were in the first half. Didn't play in the second half. Sounds more like an experiment to me. 10 min tomorrow? I doubt it - though if it is an easy win, who knows.

Buggs will spend at least 3 years not contributing. Wally can't play. The jury is still out on McNeil.

I could easily see 10 tomorrow. That's the game to do it.

He didn't play 8 against UNO, he played 2.
