Per Shama:

Drake Lindsey, the presumptive starter as the Golden Gophers quarterback for the August 28 opening game against Buffalo, certainly doesn’t lack motivation. Big-time college football players always talk about excelling and being elite, but there’s something more involved with Lindsey—the redshirt freshman from Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Lindsey told KFAN Radio this morning it was a “slap in the face” that he wasn’t recruited by his hometown Arkansas Razorbacks. Lindsey grew up dreaming of playing for the Hogs. His high school is located a short walk to the Arkansas campus. He comes from a family of Arkansas alums.

Yet it was head coach P.J. Fleck and assistant coach Greg Harbaugh Jr. who committed early to Lindsey and made him feel wanted at Minnesota. Lindsey said he will use the Arkansas snub to push himself to be a “great quarterback.”

Lindsey told the radio audience he’s excited about his college choice and sees his destination as something meant to be. He also knows being a first-year starter will be challenging after playing only limited minutes last season as Max Brosmer’s backup.

Go Gophers!!

Being ranked near the bottom of 2025 B1G QBs and in "Tier 6" on the Athletic's all-college QBs list should provide other slaps that have reached Vaudeville or Three Stooges levels.

Lots of opportunities to provide crow sammys for the media and Arkansas coaching staff.

c'mon, if the QB at Wisconsin, A 3*** recruit, had a total of 5 snaps prior to this season, and was predicted to lead the Badgers to the Play-offs, we'd be ridiculing that prediction.

I get Lindsay has a chip on his shoulder about being overlooked by Arkansas. Every QB worth their salt in college football is trying to prove something.

We could have a terrible season in 2025, and Drake could still be an excellent QB, but if he's running for his life all season, we may not know it.

I just hope they give him all the playbook he can handle. Cant be too conservative out of the gates, let him make some mistakes. As I look back at the North Carolina game last year, Brosmer was completely bridled in that game, which led to our defeat. Let Lindsay throw that ball all over the place, it will make our run game that much better.

New here?

You hope he remembers our commitment to him if he blows up here. You just never like to hear about a guy on your team's "dream school" when it isn't your team.
Not too worried about him if he blows up here. Why would he leave? I'd be more worried about him leaving if he doesn't blow up.

More money and his dream school in his home state seem like possible reasons.

If you’ve heard him talk about this you shouldn’t be concerned about it. He’s pretty comfortable here and loves the staff and his teammates. He can earn 7 figures here if his play dictates it, but I don’t the money is the biggest factor.

Welp, I guess that’s one way to look at being a worry wart👍
Not worried about it, but it may not be as impossible as you guys seem to believe if he excels. Bucky Irving and Philip Daniels left for money or hometown appeal. Like I said I think PJ and staff are in better position to keep guys around than many other programs. He said iArkansas was his dream school, not me. Only reason I brought it up.

Drake already transferred to Arkansas on me for the 2026 season in my College Football 26 video game. I thought it was curious that he kept doing the “woo pig sooie” celebration during this season’s bowl game, but it made sense shortly after.

Pretty sure an enormous amount of NIL money would be directed towards him if he does well. We're not accustomed to having an elite player at qb, I imagine we'd be pulling out all the stops to keep him here

I hope like hell he "blows up" enough that we have to worry about someone poaching him.

Please, oh please be that good.
