Post Game Comments from Fleck on KFAN

The loyalty hire could be problematic but was definitely the most known option after the necessary firing of Sanford - KC had huge success with Fleck both at WMU and UMN. Well, one really good year at each. But perhaps with his philosophy, which does not seem to evolve, there is a ceiling. The...

Fleck has become worse than Kill

With 3 losses to B1G West teams including Floyd and a blowout by PSU. 7-4 looks decent but that doesn’t make 7-4 “feel” decent.

    We've stagnated. Tough conversation below

9-4 is a decent to good year if you’ve already reached a landmark, such as B1G title, West title, Rose Bowl/NY6 bowl. It’s harder to take if you haven’t reached that landmark and don’t know if you will break through. I don’t consider 11-2 a landmark in itself because it doesn’t include any of...

Hot take: We're just fine, PJ is doing fine.

Comparing Kill to Fleck’s record is fair. Comparing Mason to Fleck is not apples to apples. State of the program when Mason took over 👎🏼, the dome 👎🏼, below average practice facilities 👎🏼 not to mention, no West division schedule so he had to play 2/3 of OSU, Michigan and PSU every year.

    Tanner Morgan injury watch thread

What? I said “right away,” not after they have no symptoms. Also, I am an MD. If a a guy gets a concussion on a Saturday game, even if out of the 5 day protocol by next Saturday, there is a very high chance in a full speed Big Ten game that any hit to the head, or his head hitting the ground...

Where are you getting this info? 5 day protocol after concussion most likely doesn’t mean you are clear to okay full contact football on day 6. They don’t even want some kids to go to class right away because it’s too much stress on the brain.

Minnesota will not go to the Rose Bowl in my Lifetime

In my opinion the ‘91 World Series was the last truly magical moment in Minnesota sports. I distinctly remember the specific lucky spot in our living room where I watched the games and the feeling of my stomach being in my throat hanging on nearly every pitch especially in games 6-7. I digress...

    KC presser for Penn St

Contact that happens on underthrown balls doesn’t favor the WR by default. If the DB ends up being closer to the ball, and is at least turning back toward the ball, they’re not going to call it. Likewise, “faceguarding” is not a penalty even if not looking at the ball.

B1G Monday morning: Will PJ Fleck and James Franklin always be also-rans?

The vast, vast majority of Illinois 4/5* over the last 10 years have not gone to Illinois. A quick look at commit lists shows Illinois signed about 3 4* TOTAL in the last 4 years and none were from Illinois. So actually the Gophers have more 4* Illinois HS recruits in the last 4 years than the...

If it’s truly a concussion then I don’t think anyone should be playing a full contact football game 1 week later, with what we know about the risks of additional trauma before complete recovery from a concussion.

Remaining path to win the west

I think it’s kind of stupid that team A could sweep the West division and then lose the division title to team B with 2 division losses (including losing head to head against Team A). Why have divisions? I thought the first criteria should be division record, THEN head to head, THEN overall...

    Interesting comparison to another program

The majority of those coaches also had a conference title before year 6.

Rumored that Matt Rhule to Lincoln

Coaches don’t want to stay out of coaching. For coaches with huge buyouts, why not ask for a lower salary to start, which would bump way up in a few years if you’re successful? Instead you could ask for more $ for hiring top flight assistants.

What's the Better Coaching Job - Nebby or BADgerland?

Wisky has more recent success, better city, better university, better recruiting territory. Depends on what a coach wants. You could obviously generate a “bigger” turnaround after Neb has hit near rock bottom, and use that as a stepping stone to a bigger job or buyout. Or perhaps have a chance...

Wow huge day for Gophers, only undefeated B10 West team, ranked this week?

Unfortunately there is a downside to the B1G West looking like it will be horribly weak this year. If the Gophers win the division and are looking at computer rankings to help, the SOS will likely be one of the weakest in Power 5 since all the OOC opponents are incredibly weak.

Miami Pipe Dream Wonky Stadium Pics

Weird oval field shape and seating pitch for a football stadium. Are they planning to use it for jai alai too??

CFN: Seven wins has to be a given at this point for the Gophers under Fleck. Eight would be good, nine would be fantastic.

The B1G West has won zero championships since realignment. Since Iowa last won their title in 2004, OSU has won over half the B1G titles. Sadly the current bar of success for West coaches is not B1G championships, it is West division titles and/or NY6 bowls.

Two more years to win the west

The Rose Bowl as (pre-Millenial) Big Ten fans (notice I didn’t say B1G) knew and loved it has been gone for many years. Although now the Rose Bowl will just be the place where B1G teams play the occasional road game against UCLA.

Gopher Watch: The 2022 NFL Draft!

Great point. Five players from the same defense drafted in the first round. Could be a component of “the sum is greater than the parts” but I’m sure by their individual metrics (I didn’t look them up) they’re all pretty likely to be successful pros.
