Weakling Wednesday Final Weekend: Iowa @ Nebraska for the Final "Chair and a Chance"

Here’s the bracket. We play Wisconsin if we win. Get a new coach if we lose.

All Things 2024-25 College Basketball Coach Fired/Hired/Retired Thread

In addition to the not insignificant NIL delta we'd have to address, Wade's a Southern guy and I'm guessing living in the great white North wouldn't be high on his list, especially if he has good P4 offers to stay in Dixie.

Shama on Gopher season tickets: “ Next fall that total could be under 4,000.”

Bringing Johnson back for year 5 will crater what minuscule interest remains in this program. It would be an egregious dereliction of Coyle’s duty to put Gophers athletics on the strongest possible footing competitively and financially.

    Fire Ben Johnson

Don't show this to Seth Davis. It runs contrary to his conclusions about the elite coaching job being done by the genius that is Ben Johnson.

Poll: Should Mark Coyle give Ben Johnson a 5th year?

I didn’t see an option for “Are you effing kidding me? Hell no!” So I just voted No.

    Can we miss B1G Tournament?

Sweet! Someday, through tears of joy, I can regale my grandkids with stories of the glorious 2024-25 Gophers basketball season where they heroically scratched and clawed their way into the Big Ten tournament's Wednesday games.

Scoggins: Word is Mark Coyle wants to build Gophers men’s basketball. What does it mean for Ben Johnson?

If he mismanages one of his major revenue sports into the dirt because of 10 years of inaction and bad judgment (5 years at the back end of Pitino--yes, I know he didn't hire him, and 5 of Johnson), then he absolutely should be measured in part on that. It's not like he has football, hockey or...

Were they also doing a lot of cocaine in the locker rooms?

Scoggins: Word is Mark Coyle wants to build Gophers men’s basketball. What does it mean for Ben Johnson?

Coyle, Mr “I didn’t come here to finish .500,” is an empty suit, and bringing Johnson back for an unearned 5th year will confirm just how inert he is as a leader and decision maker.

Scoggins: Word is Mark Coyle wants to build Gophers men’s basketball. What does it mean for Ben Johnson?

If Coyle does bring Johnson back for another year and it’s another one of mediocre performance and no tournament (as many observers from his first 4 years expect), then Coyle’s ass needs to be on the firing line, too. He’s solely responsible for letting this program die on the vine and needs to...

    Fire Ben Johnson

Sure, but the conference is a collective and negotiates as such. So, it does have a good deal to do with the Minnesotas and Marylands and Northwesterns and Rutgers and UCLAs that might not bring great on-field performance year-to-year, but they do bring large media markets that add big value for...

Football drives the billion dollar media deals that pay for everything. Basketball (and certainly not non-revenue sports) doesn’t.

Max Brosmer trying to become first Gophers quarterback drafted since 1972

The last time we had a QB drafted, that list was written on parchment paper and using a quill pen.

What locker room should Ben pretend the Gophers are in tonight?

Lake Placid 1980 before USA-USSR. Minnesota coaches give legendary inspirational speeches in that room.

    All Things Richard Pitino Tweets

I always liked Richard, he was a good face for our program and I wish we could've experienced what he's doing at New Mexico. We just got him too early. Wishing him continued success.
