I think there's not going to be a season this fall. The "Opt-Out" option will gain momentum as more players do it and the conferences have all left an out in their announcements about the pared down schedules.

I got the scoring drive data from CollegeFootballData.com, they have an excellent API that has a ton of information on it and it's public and open source. The drive direction data was tougher since nobody tracks it. I made my own dataset from watching the 1st and 4th quarters of highlight videos...

What you're talking about is more analogous to having everyone in line at the TSA strip searched and having all articles of clothing and luggage searched individually. As I was going through the highlights to get the direction data for this project, I was reminded of that game. So brutal.

Here's the share of points scored on each side over the years. Somewhat favored the open end more early in the tenure, but has been pretty stable favoring the closed end since 2015.

Not much difference by type of scoring drive FG Success rate is a little higher on the closed end, but not enough to be significant (imo)

It's gaudy and hideous, but all championship/class rings are that way. It's great for the "genre" of ring it is.

Ruined? It's such a minor change I wouldn't have even noticed it if not for the article.

Are you talking about the weekends? Most likely an artifact of reporting since some gov't offices or reporting groups aren't working on Sat/Sun. The spike on Mondays is the catch up. This is why the 7 day moving average line is there, to smooth out that variability.
